The 2020 Census is still happening, and it is essential that we count everyone living in our community. There is still time to quickly and easily respond online, by phone, or by mail now, before census takers begin to visit homes in August.

This week the New Glarus FFA Alumni, with the help of Vita Plus of Madison and Hoesly's Meats LLC, are providing a pack of Hoesly's wieners and a pack of buns for each family receiving meals from the New Glarus School District.

Wisconsin State Park Group Camping For 50 People Or Less Started July 13

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will begin to allow group camping for groups of 50 or less with reservations on Monday, July 13, 2020. The DNR will also begin placing camp hosts at state park campgrounds, and firewood is now available at select state parks. Special park operation conditions remain in place to ensure the safety of staff and visitors.

Rural Monroe Man Arrested on Child Pornography Charge

On Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at approximately 4:45 a.m., the Green County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by members of the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, executed a search warrant at W6250 Iliff Road, in the Town of Monroe. Members of the Stateline Area Narcotics Task Force (SLANT) also assisted during the search.

Fore! Pork producers, allied industry representatives, and friends of the pork industry are invited to participate in Wisconsin Pork Association’s (WPA) 21st Annual Pork Classic golf outing. The event will take place on September 2, 2020, at the Kestrel Ridge Golf Course in Columbus, WI. This is an opportunity to network with pork industry professionals, and to raise revenue for advocacy and legislative activities on behalf of Wisconsin’s pork industry.

UW Health Addresses the Importance of Masks/Face Coverings to Combat COVID-19

As new local mask mandates are considered and enacted (including in Dane County), UW Health emphasizes the importance of wearing a mask in slowing the spread of COVID-19.
“If everyone who could do so wore a mask, it would make a tremendous impact on COVID-19 transmissions,” said Dr. Nasia Safdar, Medical Director of Infection Control and Prevention at UW Health. “Something as simple as a cloth mask can decrease the number of respiratory droplets that are released when people breathe, talk, cough and sneeze.”

$500,000 in New Revolving Loan Funds Coming to the Region

The Southwestern Wisconsin Business Development Fund already has $230,000 in funds and is about to get a cash influx of another $500,000 which will help new and existing businesses and non-profits open up or expand. Loan payback terms are flexible and the interest rates will be 2% on average. These funds can help new and existing businesses buy new equipment or help fund ongoing operations.

DHS Works With USDA and Retailers to Make Grocery Shopping Safe for FoodShare Households

To support members in safely using their FoodShare benefits during the pandemic, Wisconsin households that use FoodShare are now able to shop online at two specific grocery retailers currently set up at the national level to accept online payment: Amazon and Walmart.

Swiss UCC to Host ^Drive By - Drop Off^" Event"

Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus will be having a “Drive By - Drop Off” event on Sunday, July 19, 2020, from 1:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m.
This event will be to collect school supplies for children in need. Some items will be given to the New Glarus Caring for Kids program, and the rest split between Dane and Green County Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Cross Donated to Swiss UCC

New Glarus resident and Swiss United Church of Christ parishioner Jerry Stein recently donated this beautiful lighted cross to the church in memory of his wife, Patricia. The cross is hanging on the north side of the church.
