Donation Helps Wisconsin's Dairy Farmers and Families in Need

In conjunction with National Dairy Month, Alliant Energy’s Foundation announces a $20,000 donation to two Wisconsin food banks that will benefit dairy farmers and communities throughout “America’s Dairyland.”
Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin and Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin will use the funds to purchase products, including milk, cheese and yogurt, from dairy producers in communities served by Alliant Energy in Wisconsin. The food banks will then distribute the dairy products to families in need.

Saving Lives During an Opioid Epidemic

Opioids are a class of drugs that include the illegal drug heroin, as well as pain relievers available legally by prescription such as oxycodone (OxyContin), hydrocodone (Vicodin), codeine, morphine and many others.
Upon completion of the NARCAN training, participants will be given free NARCAN nasal spray and a resource packet to include brochures and crisis/support contact information.

Zimmerman Named Academic All-America for UW-Whitewater Track and Field

Landon Zimmerman, a native of New Glarus and member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's track and field team, was selected Academic All-America second team by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Zimmerman, a senior, earned his second straight Academic All-America honor after being named to the third team in 2019. He graduated with a Bachelor's in Accounting and carried a 3.96 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

New Glarus FFA Alumni Donates Milk and Cookies to Families

This week the New Glarus FFA Alumni purchased 140 gallons of milk and the food service program provided cookies for a ^milk and Cookies^" celebration of the last days of June Dairy month. The milk and cookies are being delivered to every New Glarus family that is receiving meals from the school. We hope that this gesture will help our local dairy farms as well as the families who receive it."

COVID-19 Activity Level Data Dashboard

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) launched a new data dashboard on June 23rd designed to give Wisconsinites the tools they need to most effectively respond to COVID-19.
“Our fight against COVID-19 isn’t over - folks need to remember that this virus continues to spread in our state,” said Governor Tony Evers. “We want to make sure Wisconsinites have accurate information about the status of COVID-19 in their community. That’s why the next generation of Badger Bounce Back – a new data dashboard assessing COVID-19 activity level – is so critically important.”

Community Foundation Awards COVID-19 Funding to Help Local Community Funds Respond to Pandemic

The Community Foundation Southern Wisconsin awarded grants to Lafayette County and Green County organizations responding to community needs brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Through a generous donation from Compeer Financial to various community-funding organizations, the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin was able to offer each of its Community Funds the opportunity to grant up to $1,750 each to help relief efforts. This totaled $14,000 in Green and Lafayette Counties.

State Bank of Cross Plains Donates to Home of Our Own Project

Home of Our Own (HOOO) is happy to acknowledge a gift from the State Bank of Cross Plains. This generous $4,000 gift will help HOOO meet its capital commitment towards construction of Prairie Haus, a $9 million rental community now under construction on Elmer Road in New Glarus. Prairie Haus will contain ten units (12 spaces) for people with intellectual or developmental disabilities, along with another 30 units that HOOO expects will primarily be rented by seniors, young families, and other working people who want an affordable place to live.

Chalet of the Golden Fleece Now Open

The Village of New Glarus has approved the opening of the Chalet of the Golden Fleece Museum for the 2020 season! Appointments for tours can be arranged for any day of the week – at least 24-hours in advance – via the Chalet’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/ChaletOfTheGoldenFleece/. We cannot guarantee that we will be able to accommodate requests made with less than 24-hours notice, due to the availability of our volunteer tour guides.

Swiss Historical Village & Museum Closed for 2020

Recently, the Board of the New Glarus Historical Society decided that in support of the effort to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus and to ensure the health of their dedicated volunteers, the museum will not open this season. Listen for the bell to ring again in 2021!
The board will continue to monitor email and phone messages daily and are ready to respond to requests for assistance with local and family history requests during this time period.
