Belleville Public Library Donates to Belleville Food Pantry

This spring, as many in Belleville faced economic challenges due to the pandemic shutdown, staff at the Belleville Public Library found additional ways the Summer Reading Program could support our community. Rather than seek donations, prizes were purchased from local businesses. Additionally, we challenged the children and teens to read 1,500 or 2,500 hours to have a $300 or $500 donation made to the Belleville Food Pantry to help those experiencing difficult financial times. In a normal year, this would have been a very achievable goal.

Sheaffer States Need for Change

Dear Editor,
I read with disbelief yesterday that our Republican-led legislature had not met for over 115 days. Hmm… Seems like there have been a few issues in the last 115 days that might have benefited from some true leadership. How is it that during the most severe public health crisis in our lifetimes—a crisis that has led to record unemployment, tremendous hardship for small businesses and unprecedented challenges for our local schools—Republican leadership has offered up no meaningful guidance that might lead us together out of this mess?

Caldwell Supports Marion

Dear Editor,
Look at any small town in Southwestern Wisconsin, and you’ll see the local public school is at the heart of the community. The school is educating the citizens and leaders of tomorrow. Our hearts fill with pride for our students and their achievements. They provide sports, music, and theater for our entertainment. Funds for education are critical to maintaining our schools, which foster the “breath of economic life” to our town’s stores, gas stations, taverns, agribusinesses, and churches.
