Sharing Christmas Memories

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas – and we need your help!
We at the Swiss Historical Village and New Glarus Historical Society were so looking forward to celebrating the 175th anniversary of New Glarus this year, and so it was with heavy hearts that we decided to keep the museum closed for the 2020 season to help slow the spread of COVID-19. But, the year’s not over yet, and we still want to do something to celebrate our community.

Giving Tuesday for New Glarus Library

Don’t you wish a dollar was worth more than a dollar, not less? You can have your wish come true on December 1.
December 1st is Giving Tuesday and the Friends of the New Glarus Library are participating for the first time. The Friends want use this money for furniture in the Children’s and Young Adult areas of the new library, and to help with the cost of special programs for the community. The great thing is that the money we raise for furniture will be matched by the ongoing Love of Community grant, making your dollar worth more!

New Glarus Village Board Approves Ordinance Regulating Wireless Telecommunications Facilities in the Right of Way

The New Glarus Village Board met on November 17, 2020, remotely via Zoom.
The board took up the question of rescinding the permit for Christkindli Market. There were two agenda items, one to rescind the permit, and one to change the location of the event. Before being able to vote on the location, the board would have to rescind the original permit.
During the Public Comment section, Deb Anderegg of the Glarner Stube noted that having the street closed would cause problems for their restaurant. She said that with the pandemic, 70% of their business is carryout.
