Dane County Parks Launches Two New Forestry Projects to Restore and Enhance Natural Areas

Dane County Parks staff and volunteers work on dozens of sites across the county to restore natural communities that once dominated the area but are now increasingly rare. Two more projects will be starting soon to enhance oak habitats at Mud Lake Wildlife Area and Scheidegger Forest through the harvest of non-oak species. Revenue generated from the sale of timber will be used to advance ecological restoration goals on park lands.

Gov. Evers, DATCP Announce Additional $10 Million for Food Security Initiative

Gov. Tony Evers, along with the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (DATCP), announced two of Wisconsin’s largest hunger relief organizations will receive an additional $10 million to help serve Wisconsinites experiencing food insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic. This announcement brings the total investment in Wisconsin’s agricultural and food industries during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic to $75 million.

GRANT H. MEYER

Grant Henry Meyer, age 23 months, passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2020, at American Family Children's Hospital from complications of MELAS, a condition that he was born with. He was born on December 30, 2018, the son of Paul and Cortney (Merry) Meyer.
Grant was always a happy, smiling, and strong child. He loved his mother, father, and brother dearly. Grant always wanted to share with those around him, and his family will continue that in his memory.

Dane County Recount Information

Mount Horeb’s ballots were tallied again on Sunday, during Dane County’s official recount. When it was over, the results were identical to those following the November 3 Presidential Election. No votes were changed and none were thrown out.
“We went through everything and it came out perfect,” said Deputy Clerk Chrissy Kahl. “Everything was fine.”

Monticello Christmas Stocking Update

Bald Eagle Watching North of New Glarus

Two Bald Eagles perched side by side in a tree north of the Village of New Glarus last week. While it not uncommon to see Bald Eagles in the area, they are still a majestic sight.
The day before this picture was taken there was an adult and a juvenile Bald Eagle in the same area.
Last year the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources counted 1,684 active Bald Eagle nests across the state. That number is a dramatic increase from just 108 in the 1970s. In 2019, the birds nested in every Wisconsin county except Milwaukee.
