Belleville Kiwanis Continues Service

During these times of uncertainty, Belleville Kiwanis is still here. We have had to reduce the scope of service projects and curtail public exposure and fundraising. Our chili/taco dinner combined with the Boy Scouts is canceled, while school and community projects continue. As the schools schedule allows, we continue to offer K4 Bookworms books, middle school academic achievement awards, two high school scholarships and a World Affairs seminar scholarship (which may be virtual in the summer of 2021).

Not Working for Over 200 Days

Dear Editor,
How long would you keep your refrigerator if it conked out and didn’t work? A day? A week? A month? How about 200 days?
Would it bother you if, during a long Wisconsin winter, your well-maintained furnace didn’t work? For months?
If your car became unreliable and quit running over and over, stranding you far from where you want to be, would you consider getting a different car? A different brand?

Surprised at Sentence

To the Editor,
While reading the article on Monticello felon received forty two months for possessing ammunition, I was struck at how unlikely that seemed. In my days as a serial carouser, canvassing every dark den about town, I got to know every felon for ten miles. Every one of them had at least one weapon.
When I noticed it was a federal court and a federal prosecutor, that explained everything.
