Doral Gmur, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Gmur, has notified relatives here of his arrival in the states from Europe on Saturday.
Capt. Paul Elliker has been discharged from the Army and has returned to his old position at Purdue University.
Lt. Eugene Stuessy, who is a patient at Percy Jones Annex at Fort Custer, Michigan, spent the weekend with his family here.
Wilbert Bernet of the Merchant Marine has been here visiting his family.

Vendors and Volunteers Needed for New Glarus Christkindli Market 2020

New Glarus will be holding a Christkindli Market in downtown New Glarus on December 11-13, 2020! This outdoor Christmas market will host multiple vendors offering a variety of high quality, locally made and sourced gifts, along with Christmas decorations and foods, all housed in wooden open-air chalets. Shop local and support hometown businesses, while enjoying Christmas lights and music.

Washington Center 4-H club member Natalie Roe was recently named the 2020 first place awardee of the prestigious James W. Crowley Dairy Leadership Award out of a highly competitive field of numerous applicants statewide.

Area Fire Departments Respond to Weekend Fires

On Saturday, November 7, 2020, the Belleville Fire Department was called to an address on Exeter Crossing Road. An investigation determined that the fire was started by a truck idling in tall grass and ignited the grass, which quickly spread into several rows of round bales. The fire damaged or destroyed approximately 100 large round bales of hay and corn fodder. There were no injuries. New Glarus, Monticello and Brooklyn Fire Departments as well as Belleville EMS assisted at the scene.

Sheriff's Office Investigating Burglaries

The Green County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating two separate burglaries that occurred in the county over the previous two weeks.
On October 30th, Deputies responded to a burglary at Casey’s General Store in the Village of New Glarus.
On November 1st, Deputies responded to a burglary at a local church on STH 78 in York Township.

Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program (WHEAP)

In response to the COVID-19 crisis, the Department of Administration (DOA) has adjusted the eligibility requirements for residents who are seeking heating and electric assistance through the Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program (WHEAP).
Eligibility is now based on the household’s previous month of income, rather than the former requirement of the previous three months of income. This move was made to ensure those who are recently affected by the COVID-19 response are able to receive assistance quickly. Eligibility requirements are available below.

The Department of Workforce Development (DWD) has recently announced its Wisconsin Fast Forward (WFF) grant opportunities for employers who can demonstrate a critical need for skilled workers and are seeking WFF training grants for developing and implementing an employer-led skills training program.

WPA Seeking Youth Pig Project Sponsors

Wisconsin Pork Association (WPA) is accepting sponsorships for the 2021 Youth Pig Project. Since 2003, WPA has offered Wisconsin 4-H and FFA Youth $50 scholarships to help offset the costs associated with their pig projects. The scholarship program, developed and led by the WPA Youth Committee, is designed to assist youth in establishing swine projects that can lead to the development of life skills and career opportunities in the Wisconsin pork industry.
Pig producers can become a blue, red, or white sponsor by contributing $100, $75, $50, or give an amount of their choosing.
