Green County Sheriff's Office Annual Awards

On Tuesday, December 22, 2020, the Green County Sheriff’s Office held their annual awards ceremony in the Historic Courthouse. The following staff members received recognition:
Deputies Adam Bass and Tanner Gilbert (Lifesaving Award): For rescuing an adult female from a burning apartment in Spring Grove Township during the early morning hours of December 20, 2019. Both deputies were also recognized for the same action by the Wisconsin Professional Police Association.

Belleville Fire Department and EMS Respond to Rollover in Creek

On December 27, 2020, Belleville Fire and EMS were dispatched to Highway 69 and County A, for a motor vehicle rollover in the creek with a trapped occupant.
Fire fighters arrived prepared to make a cold water rescue. The vehicle was stabilized and the uninjured driver was assisted from the vehicle.

Marty Family Thanks First Responders

The John P. Marty family donated a bench to the Monticello Fire Department as a thank you for their service and sacrifice. Their efforts had not gone unnoticed on October 7th, and the family, and community, appreciates everything they do. Thank you, Monticello Fire and First Response!

Lions Beautify the Village

Monticello Lions Secretary Mike Davis, Lions President Linn Lederman and Lions Board Member Roger Gempeler are hanging bows on the walk bridge over the river in the village park last Saturday. Lions participate in helping to beautify the village. Thank you Lions!

Knights Win Over Cambridge, Lose to Marshall

The New Glarus Glarner Knights hosted Marshall on December 14th. Down by only 1 point at the half, New Glarus was outscored by 4 in the second and lost the game. The final score was Marshall 56, New Glarus 51.
Leading the Knights with 19 points was Dain Walter. Nathan Streiff put 11 on the board while Mason Martinson scored 9 points.
On December 18th, the Knights hosted Cambridge. With a 9 point lead at the half, the Knights opened the second half with an 18-2 to break the game open. The final score was New Glarus 71, Cambridge 40.

Belleville Girls Basketball Opens Conference Season

On Thursday, December 17th, the Belleville girls basketball team traveled to Waterloo for their first conference matchup of the season. The Wildcats came out strong in the first half, building a 29-22 lead at halftime. But Coach Pharo stated that he didn't think they came out with the same focus at the beginning of the second half, which allowed the lead to slip away. The remainder of the second half was back and forth between the two teams with Waterloo coming out on top with a 55-52 win over the Wildcats.

New Contact Tracing App Available

Gov. Tony Evers has announced that the launch of WI Exposure Notification, a new mobile app to assist in notifying contacts, allowing close contacts of those with a positive test to take quicker action, will go live for Wisconsinites this week. The voluntary app uses Bluetooth technology and is available for download in the Google Play store, while iPhone users can turn the app on in their phone’s settings. WI Exposure Notification complements the state’s and partner agencies’ efforts in contact tracing.

Hardwood Trees for Planting Spring 2021

Winter has just begun but it’s time to think spring. Think spring tree planting. The Green County Land & Water Conservation Department is offering 10 varieties of trees and three varieties of shrubs for landowners interested in planting trees next spring. The tree varieties are: Bur Oak, Red Oak, White Oak, Swamp White Oak, Sugar Maple, Black Walnut, American Plum, American Arborvitae, White Pine, and Norway Spruce. Shrubs available are: Redosier Dogwood, American Hazelnut, and Common Ninebark.
