Green County Public Health COVID-19 Vaccine Situation Update

Green County Public Health is continuing to vaccinate those individuals who are a part of Tier 1A of COVID-19 vaccine distribution. This tier includes healthcare workers, individuals in long term care facilities, mortuary workers, and police and fire personnel, as defined by the Wisconsin State Disaster Medical Advisory Committee. Our department is in contact with organizations and agencies who are a part of this tier to coordinate vaccination efforts.

Unemployment Insurance 2020 Tax Statements Now Available Online

The Department of Workforce Development (DWD) is reminding state residents who received Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits last year that they must report UI benefits as taxable income on their 2020 tax returns, and that their 1099-G income tax statements for the year are easily accessible through UI’s secure and confidential online system.

Sugar River Wrestlers Win Over Columbus

The Sugar River wrestling team competed in a Dual against Columbus in New Glarus on January 22nd. Sugar River won the dual, 33-27.
Congratulations to New Glarus High School Senior Joe Quaglia on reaching his 100th career win!
Wrestling at 152 lbs, Sugar River’s Avery Lettman lost to Logan Olmsted.
Sugar River’s Alex Zielinski, wrestling at 160 lbs, won by fall over Otto Andler.
SR’s Carson Loshaw, wrestling at 182 lbs, won by decision over Liam Dawson.
Wrestling at 120 lbs, SR’s Mason Mau won by fall over Gwen Dawson.

Wildcats Win Over Waterloo

The Belleville Wildcats boys basketball team played at Waterloo on January 18th. With a 31-18 lead at the half, the Wildcats went on to outscore the Pirates in the second half 42-16 to come up with a big win. The final score was Belleville 73, Waterloo 34.
Carson Syse led Belleville with 20 points, while Andrew Ace scored 12 points and DeMarcus Conner and Jack Erickson each scored 9 points.
On January 19th, Belleville played against Marshall at Just A Game Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells. Belleville lost the game, 58-79.

Lady Ponies Lose to Black Hawk, Win Over Belmont

The Monticello Lady Ponies played at Black Hawk on January 21st. Black Hawk held a 55-17 lead at the half and outscored Monticello in the second to win the game. The final score was Black Hawk 87, Monticello 25.
Mackie Errthum scored 8 points and had 4 blocks and 9 rebounds to lead Monticello in scoring. Alexa Siegenthaler scored 7 points with 3 rebounds and Ellie Gustafson scored 6 points and had 7 rebounds.

Lady Knights Win On the Road Over Deerfield

The New Glarus Lady Knights played at Deerfield on January 18th. Leading 40-25 at the half, New Glarus held Deerfield to just 13 points in the second half to win the game. The final score was New Glarus 69, Deerfield 38.
“It was the game we talked about; not having after a well-fought game against a great team! How would we come out mentally! We had a slow start, giving up way too many offensive boards and fouling too much,” explained Coach Kevin Parman. “We played good team defense the second half! And we opened up a 30-point lead.”

Knights Win Over WI Heights, Lose a Heartbreaker to Marshall

On January 19th, the New Glarus Knights played at Wisconsin Heights. The Knights had an 8-point advantage at the half and went on to win the game against the Vanguards. The final score was New Glarus 73, Wisconsin Heights 61.
Dain Walter led the team in scoring with 21 points, while Carter Siegenthaler scored 16 points and Nathan Streiff put 12 points on the board.

The Monticello Ponies boys basketball team played at Albany on January 19th. Leading 41-10 at the half, the Ponies kept their lead throughout the second half to win the game. The final score was Monticello 73, Albany 31.

Belleville Battles Hard the Week of January 18th But Comes Up Short

Belleville Girls Basketball traveled to Darlington to take on the Redbirds on Tuesday, January 19th. The game was back and forth throughout, and the Wildcats went into halftime with a 25-22 lead. The second half was nip and tuck but it saw the Redbirds Taylor Wedig go off for 30 points and saw the Wildcats miss some important free throws to allow Darlington to win with a final score of 56-52.
High scorers for Belleville were Ava Foley with 15, Kenna Edge with 12 points, and Callie Smith with 11 for the Wildcats.
