Authorities said that the infant’s death is being investigated as a homicide, and a person of interest has been taken into custody.

Town of York to Hold Caucus January 21, 2021, Via Zoom

The Town of York has set the date for the caucus for naming nominees for the April 6, 2021, election. The caucus will be held on January 21, 2021, at 7:00 p.m., via Zoom (with call-in by phone as well). Voting will take place by roll call (providing name and verification of town residency). All the information will be posted on the Town’s website: www.townofyork.org and there are three positions on the Board up for caucus.

Green County Bar Association To Sponsor Candidate Forum

The Green County Bar Association will sponsor a virtual “meet the candidates” forum for the four candidates seeking to become Green County’s Branch One Circuit Judge. The one-hour forum is scheduled for Tuesday, January 19, 2021, beginning at 6:30 p.m. It will be live-streamed to the public on www.YouTube.com via the Green County Bar Association channel, and a recording will also be available for later public viewing on the channel.

Ponies Lose to Evansville Blue Devils

On Tuesday, December 29th, the Monticello Ponies played at Evansville. The Ponies were trailing behind the Blue Devils by 14 at the half and while they outscored the home team in the second half, it wasn’t enough to catch up. The final score was Evansville 67, Monticello 59.

New Glarus Lady Knights Win Over Monroe

On Saturday, January 2nd, the New Glarus girls basketball team played at Monroe. The Lady Knights were leading by 6 at the halftime break, and kept the pressure on in the second half to win the game. The final score was New Glarus 57, Monroe 49.
“We had the start we wanted! But Monroe didn’t give up,” said Coach Kevin Parman. “We were able to maintain our lead and knock down free throws down the stretch and come away with a big win to start out the new year.”

Belleville Girls Basketball Wins at Highland and Loses at Edgerton

On Monday, December 28th, the Wildcats traveled to take on an exceptionally good Highland team. Unfortunately, the Wildcats started the game slowly by getting down by 10 points in the first four minutes but after that they were able to right the ship with an extremely aggressive defense, which saw the Wildcats go into halftime with 27-21 lead. Coach Pharo said in the second half both teams came out incredibly determined to compete in the game and it saw both teams making runs at each other.

Packers FAN Hall of Fame Finalist Has Local Ties

Ken Trinkner, De Pere, the grandfather of Matthew Schmitt and great-grandfather of Brayden, Allison and Theo, all of New Glarus, is one of the finalists in the Packers FAN Hall of Fame. Ken is 90-years-old and remembers all the Packers’ history; he sold programs for the team over 70 years ago.
