2020 Tax Assistance Appointments

Appointments are now available for free income tax preparation services for low to moderate income, elderly and disabled persons through the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide programs. Assistance provided includes the preparation of federal and state (including homestead) income taxes. Appointments are available in Monroe on Mondays beginning February 1st, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at Green County Government Services Building, N3152 State Rd 81, Monroe, WI. Appointments on Tuesdays MAY be available in Brodhead or Albany beginning on February 9th.

Belleville Finishes Out Tough Regular Season

Belleville Girls Basketball finished this regular season, which could compare to none in the past, playing every game on the road and needing to play several times on back-to-back nights because of not being able to host their home games. This week saw the Belleville Wildcats starting their week by traveling to Poynette on Tuesday, February 2nd, to take on the Pumas. Coach Pharo said that his team came out on this evening and played the most complete game of their season, determined to show that they have made improvements from where the season started.

4-H Day in the Arts Contest Goes Virtual

The arts are for anyone! No matter your grade level or interest, there is something for you to experience through the 4-H Arts. The goal of the 4-H Day in the Arts Contest is to give youth an opportunity to express their creativity, while also developing skills in a supportive and encouraging environment. There is no cost to participate, and 4-H membership is not required.

Wildcats Win Over Cambridge

The Belleville Wildcats boys basketball team played at Cambridge on February 5th. Up 47-25 at the half, the Wildcats went on to win the game. The final score was Belleville 66, Cambridge 49.
Trevor Syse led the Wildcats with 17 points, while Carson Syse scored 16 points and Gavin Boyum put 9 points on the board.
On February 6th, the Wildcats hosted Marshall. Trailing by 14 at the half, the Wildcats did attempt a comeback in the second half but Marshall held them off. Belleville lost, 56-70.

Knights Seeded #3 for Sectionals Following Wins Over Belleville and Waterloo

The New Glarus boys basketball team played at Belleville on February 2nd. A slim 3-point lead by New Glarus held the Wildcats off at the half, and the Knights increased that lead ever so slightly in the second half to win the game. The final score was New Glarus 65, Belleville 57.
Dain Walter led New Glarus with 20 points, while Nathan Streiff and Mason Martinson each scored 10 points.
For Belleville, Andrew Ace led the Wildcats with 15 points, while Trevor Syse scored 14 points and Carson Syse and DeMarcus Conner each scored 9 points.

New Glarus Area EMS Blood Drive

The New Glarus Area EMS, 401 3rd Street, is hosting a Blood Drive on Saturday, February 13, 2021, from 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. All blood donations are now tested for COVID-19 antibodies. Please see https://www.redcrossblood.org/antibodytesting for more details.
The need for blood is constant and only volunteer donors can fulfill that need for patients in our community. Nationwide, someone needs a unit of blood every 2 to 3 seconds, and most of us will need blood in our lifetime.

New Glarus FFA Spring Fruit Sale

The New Glarus FFA is having a spring fruit sale. Online orders may be made here: https://sales.minntexcitrus.com/organization/new-glarus-spring-sale/.
The order deadline is February 15, 2021, and a drive-through pickup is scheduled for March 4, 2021. You will be asked to enter a student’s name at the time of the sale - if you do not know a student in the FFA, you may enter “community member”.

Village of New Glarus Village Board Approves TID #4 COVID-19 Relief Program

At its January 19, 2021, meeting, the New Glarus Village Board approved the creation of the TID 4 COVID- 19 Relief Program. The primary purpose of the program is to retain jobs, stabilize local businesses and prevent blight that may result from financial hardship in maintaining business operations or meeting business expenses as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The New Glarus Police Department recently moved in to our newly remodeled, state of the art, police department building. This project was a long time overdue, well needed and will greatly improve our day to today operations and interactions with the community.
