Monroe-New Glarus Swim Team Hosts DeForest

The Monroe-New Glarus swim team hosted DeForest at the YMCA in Monroe on February 23rd. The JV team beat DeForest, 54-17, while the Varsity team lost to DeForest, 71-99.
<strong>Varsity Results</strong>
In the 200 SC Meter Medley Relay, the team of Kaitlyn Elgin, Karley Michels, Anna Newcomer and Francesca Schiro placed second, with a time of 2:17.24. Right behind them in third place was the team of Taylor Rufer, Elsa Schaefer, Samantha Schiro and Peyton Yaun, with a time of 2:25.28.

Girls on the Run Launches Spring Season With Flexible Programming Models

Girls on the Run of South Central Wisconsin announces that registration is now open for the Spring 2021 season at over 50 sites throughout their 8-county territory. Girls on the Run delivers a research-based curriculum designed to empower 3rd-7th grade girls. They teach girls the importance of identifying their emotions, communication skills, and the balance between physical and mental health. This past fall, Girls on the Run quickly adapted its engaging programming to serve girls in the community amidst the global pandemic.

Monticello Students Win Prizes in Fire Safety Poster Contest

Four students of Paul Burk at Monticello High School placed in the top three for their grade level in this year's Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin Charitable Foundation, Inc., (PFFWCF) Fire Safety Newspapers in Education poster contest. Over 350 entries to the poster contest were received this year.
The Monticello students who placed are: Brayden Ryan - 1st Place - 11th grade; Katelyn Eyler - 2nd Place - 11th grade; Angela Cash - 2nd Place - 10th grade; and Grace Seffrood - 3rd Place - 10th grade.

Ag Scholarships Available

If you are pursuing a career related to agriculture and are currently halfway through your coursework in college, technical school or a short course program, you are eligible to earn money for additional educational expenses through the Monticello FFA Alumni. The Monticello FFA Alumni will be offering scholarships to eligible students.

Solitary Living Support Group at the Sugar River Senior Center

Are you living alone or just feel alone and would like to meet with a small group of people walking the same path? During the pandemic, physical distancing can feel like social isolation. With small groups we would like to help this time feel a little less isolated.
Groups will meet on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, at 1:00 p.m., and we will form as many groups as we need to keep our number around 6 people each time.

Caregiver Support Group at the Sugar River Senior Center

Calling all caregivers! The pandemic has shown what we already knew. Your job is hard. Your care for your loved one can make it harder to care for yourself. Let us help.
Caregiver groups are held the 3rd Wednesday of the month, at 1:00 p.m. Groups will be kept to 4 or 5 caregivers and if you don’t have respite to come alone, we will have an activity planned for your loved one in a different area. We will form as many groups as we need to keep our numbers small.

Honoring Belleville's Farming Heritage

Would you like an opportunity to honor your family farm and support the Children’s Area in the new Belleville Public Library?
Internationally known artist Larry Schultz will be painting a custom mural near the entrance to the Children’s Area. Those who donate $5,000 to the building fund can have an image of their Belleville area family farm or agriculture-related business included in the mural to recognize our community’s farming heritage.
Donations or pledges must be made by March 31st in order to be included in the mural.

ARLENE E. KRUEGER

Arlene Elizabeth Krueger, age 98, passed away on February 24, 2021. Arlene was born October 21, 1922, in Monroe, Wisconsin, to Glen and Louise Legler Babler.
She graduated from New Glarus High School, New Glarus, Wisconsin, and from Miss Brown's School of Business, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Arlene was employed as an executive secretary.
She married Albert H. Krueger August 25, 1945, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at St. Stephens Lutheran Church. They moved to St. Cloud, Minnesota, in 1956, where Albert was a professor at St. Cloud State University until retirement.

DR. ROY J. HABECK

Dr. Roy J. Habeck, born October 11, 1933, to Otto and Ida Habeck of the Town of Richmond, Shawano County, Wisconsin, passed away on March 1, 2021.
Born the youngest of six surviving children in his generation, he was the only one that attended high school, and eventually earned a doctorate degree in educational administration.
