Poster Winners Announced

The Green County Land and Water Conservation Department recently held its annual conservation poster contest. The conservation poster contest is open to kindergarten through twelfth grade students. Students are broken into five grade categories. Posters are evaluated on the following criteria: conservation message, visual effectiveness, originality, universal appeal, and individual artwork. The theme of this year’s contest was Healthy Forests = Healthy Communities.

New Glarus Community Blood Drive

New Glarus Bible Church, 207 6th Street, is hosting a Blood Drive, sponsored by Shepherd of the Hills, on Friday, April 2, 2021, from 12:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. All blood donations are now tested for COVID-19 antibodies. Please see https://www.redcrossblood.org/AntibodyTesting for more details.
The need for blood is constant and only volunteer donors can fulfill that need for patients in our community. Nationwide, someone needs a unit of blood every 2 to 3 seconds and most of us will need blood in our lifetime.

State Moratorium on Utility Disconnections to End April 15, 2021

On Thursday, March 18th, the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSC) voted unanimously to allow utilities to move forward with disconnection of service for nonpayment at the end of the annual winter moratorium after April 15, 2021. The action comes following a moratorium preventing utilities from disconnecting service for nonpayment during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Since the end of October, the weekly average of COVID-19 cases have decreased by more than 90% and Wisconsin has become a national leader in vaccine implementation.

Virtual Town Hall to be held for New Glarus School Board Candidates

On Thursday, March 25, 2021, at 7:00 p.m., there will be a virtual town hall meeting for New Glarus School Board candidates. The meeting will last for 30 minutes, then there will be an approximately five minute break and it will continue on another Zoom meeting room. Organizer Josh Rabel noted that some candidates may not be able to attend this meeting, in order for each candidate to have their voice be heard there will be future Zoom meetings scheduled.

WIAA Alternate Fall Season Culminating Events Planned

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association is planning culminating championships and tournaments for an alternate fall season created by the Board of Control last August as a COVID-19 accommodation for member schools opting to not conduct interscholastic athletics last fall.

Knights Volleyball Loses Close Match to Poynette

The New Glarus girls volleyball team hosted Poynette on March 18th. New Glarus lost in four, 22-25; 22-25; 25-17; 18-25.
Grace Nommensen had 14 kills, 14 assists and 4 aces, while Emma Marty had 5 kills and 9 digs, Lindsey Schadewalt had 16 assists and 4 kills, Carrah Bainbridge had 13 digs and Veronica Tollakson had 4 kills and 4 aces.
On March 22nd New Glarus hosted Columbus and on March 23rd they hosted Belleville. They will play at Lodi on March 25th and host Wisconsin Heights on March 30th.

Monroe-New Glarus Swimming Beats Stoughton

The Monroe-New Glarus girls swim team hosted Stoughton on March 16th. The JV team fell to Stoughton, 26-47, while the Varsity team emerged victorious, 107-63.
<strong>Varsity Results</strong>
The 200 SC Meter Medley Relay team of Riley Hoesly, Karley Michels, Keeley Mulligan and Francesca Schiro won the event with a time of 2:16.33. Placing third in the event was the team of Kaitlyn Elgin, Peyton Yaun, Samantha Schiro and Anna Newcomer, with a time of 2:19.32.

Belleville Volleyball Wins Against Columbus

The Belleville Wildcats volleyball team hosted Columbus on March 16th. The Wildcats won it in four, 25-14; 25-15; 19-25; 25-16.
Kill leaders were Ava Foley and Callie Smith, each with 15. Callie Smith had 13 blocks, while Brooke Everson had 7. Ava Foley had 4 aces while Kenna Edge had 3. Josey Latorre had 23 assists and Kenna Edge had 10. Ava Foley had 13 digs and Mel Humke had 12.
On March 18th, the team played at Lodi. Belleville lost in four close sets, 19-25; 23-25; 25-20; 22-25.
