New Glarus Home Welcomes Back Visitors

The New Glarus Home recently announced that they are welcoming back visitors to the New Glarus Home Campus. On Monday, March 22nd, residents on the 400, 500 and 600 wings, who are not in quarantine, began having visitors. Phase two will begin Wednesday, March 31st, with residents on the remaining units able to receive visitors.
Visitors to the campus are required to follow these core principles of infection prevention:

South Central Wisconsin Farmers Union Meeting

In late February, the South Central Chapter of the Wisconsin Farmers Union held its first virtual meeting of the year, with nearly two dozen members in attendance. The group discussed a wide range of topics, including policy initiatives agreed upon at the recent WFU State Convention, WFU’s push for farmer-labor solidarity and Farmers Union’s priorities regarding the upcoming Wisconsin State Budget.

Belleville Volleyball Wins Over Cambridge

The Belleville girls volleyball team hosted Cambridge on March 13th. Belleville won in three sets, 25-23; 25-4; 25-21.
Ava Foley had 9 kills and 9 digs, while Callie Smith had 7 kills and 4 blocks, Alyssa Caskey had 3 aces, Josey Latorre had 14 assists, Kenna Edge had 11 assists, and Melanie Humke had 16 digs.
The team hosted Columbus on March 16th. They will play at Lodi on March 18th and at Poynette on March 20th.

Monroe-New Glarus Swim Team Wins Over Monona Grove

The Monroe-New Glarus Cheesemakers girls swim team hosted Monona Grove at the Green County YMCA on March 9th. The JV team lost, 18-81, while the Varsity team won 95-75.

New Glarus Volleyball Defeats Cambridge

On March 8th, the New Glarus volleyball team hosted Cambridge. New Glarus won in three sets, 25-18; 25-19; 25-9.
Senior Alexah Mellenberger had 5 kills and 14 assists, while Emma Marty had 4 kills and Grace Nommenson had 6 kills.
On March 9th, the team hosted Lodi. New Glarus lost in four, 22-25; 25-23; 20-25; 23-25.
Grace Nommensen had 13 kills, 3 aces, 10 assists and 5 digs, while Alexah Mellenberger had 8 kills, 20 assists and 4 aces and Carrah Bainbridge had 10 digs.

Monroe Avalanche Bantam A (14 U) Wins State Championship

The Monroe Youth Hockey Bantam A team finished out their impressive season with a State Champion win March 5-7 at the Wisconsin Amateur Hockey Association (WAHA) Bantam Division 3A State Tournament. As with most everything this past year, the season started with a lot of questions and confusion. Because COVID altered when and how the high school season would be played, five freshman boys opted to stay with youth hockey for one more year; and what a year it has been!

New Glarus Community Blood Drive

New Glarus Bible Church, 207 6th Street, is hosting a Blood Drive, sponsored by Shepherd of the Hills, on Friday, April 2, 2021, from 12:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. All blood donations are now tested for COVID-19 antibodies. Please see https://www.redcrossblood.org/AntibodyTesting for more details.
The need for blood is constant and only volunteer donors can fulfill that need for patients in our community. Nationwide, someone needs a unit of blood every 2 to 3 seconds and most of us will need blood in our lifetime.

Welcoming Signs of Spring

Despite snowfall earlier this week, Spring is on the way!
Sandhill Cranes, Redwing Blackbirds, and Robins have been sighted, and Crocuses, Daffodils and Tulips have begun to pop up in yards and flower beds.
The snow that fell on Monday is predicted to melt within a day or two and warmer temperatures will (hopefully) arrive by the weekend.
