Monticello Prepares for Village-Wide Garage Sales May 20-22, 2021

Garage Sale Enthusiasts - It is time again to begin thinking about the Monticello Chamber of Commerce annual community-wide spring garage sales. The sales will be held on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, May 20th, 21st and 22nd. The Annual Community-Wide Garage Sale features sales throughout the community, clearly indicated on maps with categories of sales items. The spreadsheet will also indicate which days the sale will be held. The maps, with spreadsheets, will be available at multiple locations in Monticello.

Stern Wins Battle Round on ^The Voice^"

On Monday night’s episode of <i>The Voice</i>, Raine Stern went head-to-head with teammate Andrew Marshall in the Battle Rounds.
Singing a duet of “Adore You,” by Harry Styles, Nick named Raine the winner of the battle, and, moments later, Blake stole Andrew, who will continue the competition on Team Blake.

Belleville Girls Volleyball Are Regional Champions

The Belleville volleyball team hosted Wisconsin Heights on April 5th, losing in five, 26-24; 20-25; 23-25; 25-19; 11-15.
Ava Foley had 17 kills, 4 aces and 11 digs, while Callie Smith had 8 kills and 13 blocks, Brooke Everson had 17 blocks, Josey Latorre had 16 assists, Kenna Edge had 11 assists and Melanie Humke had 14 digs.
On April 8th, the Wildcats played at Poynette. Belleville won in three, 25-20; 25-18; 25-23.

How Safe is Your Drinking Water?
According to the University of Wisconsin Center for Watershed Science and Education, WI Well Water Quality Viewer (uwsp.edu) at https://gissrv3.uwsp.edu/webapps/gwc/pri_wells/, 24% of private wells tested in Green County show bacterial contamination. Of those, 10% have tested positive for E. coli. Also, 18% of Green County’s tested wells show nitrate levels above the safe limit of 10 parts million and 46% exhibit some level of contamination by the pesticide Atrazine.

Zwingli UCC in Monticello Annual Kalberwurst Dinner

Zwingli United Church of Christ is planning on holding their annual Kalberwurst Dinner this year, drive-up and carryout style. The dinner will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2021. All dinners must be purchased ahead of time, visit https://zwingli-united-church-of-christ.square.site/ and make your reservations for the time slot that fits you and your family. Time slots are available from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., and pick up is at the church, 416 E. Lake Avenue in Monticello.

New Glarus Volleyball Defeats Wisconsin Heights

The New Glarus volleyball team hosted Wisconsin Heights on March 30th, defeating them 3-0: 25-21; 25-20; 25-19.
Grace Nommensen had 8 kills and 13 assists, while Emma Marty had 6 assists, 5 blocks and 5 digs, Amber Horn had 5 blocks and 5 kills, Lindsey Schadewalt had 4 kills, 9 assists and 2 aces, Carrah Bainbridge had 9 digs and Isabelle Zimmerman had 10 digs.

Belleville Seeded #2 for Regional Play

The Belleville Wildcats girls volleyball team played at Southwestern on March 30th. They won it in four sets, 26-24; 25-12; 22-25; 25-20.
Ava Foley had 11 kills, 2 aces and 16 digs, while Callie Smith had 11 kills, Brooke Everson had 18 blocks, Katie Bowers had 11 blocks, Josey Latorre had 3 aces and 14 assists, Kenna Edge had 10 assists, and Mel Humke had 12 digs.
On April 1st, Belleville played at Evansville. Belleville lost in five sets, 24-26; 28-26; 20-25; 25-18; 13-15.

Two Meets and Five Victories

Two weeks of practice and four weeks of competition precede Conference, Sectionals and State. The Alternate Fall Cross Country season sets a record for brevity. Unable to compete in the fall, the WIAA granted schools a short spring season in place of the traditional August, September and October. Three weeks into this shortened season, NGM turned over five victories and one close finish.

Wildcats Prevail Over Cuba City in OT

The Belleville Wildcats football team traveled to Southwestern High School in Hazel Green on April 3rd to play against Cuba City. With the game tied at the end of regulation, it went into overtime, where the Wildcats scored to win the game. The final score was Belleville 14, Cuba City 7.
The first quarter was quiet with no scoring from either team. In the second quarter, Trevor Syse scored and kicked the extra point to put Belleville up 7-0.
