Belleville Memorial Day Ceremony

While there won’t be a program at the High School this year, Belleville will hold a short Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 31, 2021. The ceremony will start at 10:00 a.m., at the Belleville Veteran’s Memorial Park.
The ceremony will honor our fallen military men and women who died in service of their country and will be conducted by members of Duppler-Smith American Legion Post 460. All are invited to attend.

100th Birthday Celebration

On Saturday, June 12, 2021, in the center of the Village of Belleville at the old train depot, there will be a gathering for the 100th birthday celebration of Lee Stock's 1921 Model T.
The event will begin at 11:30 a.m., and there will be refreshments available (no alcohol is permitted).

HELEN C. WETTACH

Helen Clara Wettach, age 96 of Monroe, previously Monticello, WI, passed away on May 23, 2021, at Monroe Hospice Home. She was born on June 17, 1924, in rural Argyle where the Yellowstone Lake is today, as the eldest of three children. Her parents were John and Clara (Rohner) Rechsteiner, both of whom were Swiss immigrants.

EMILY C. KRUEGER

Emily C. Krueger, beloved to all who knew her, passed away suddenly on Monday, May 17, 2021, after a fall. She was 86 years old, born on June 17, 1934, in Oregon, the daughter of Edward and Emily (Chark) Rowe.

Recovery Grants Available

The Wisconsin Tomorrow Small Business Recovery Grant program is now open, and will award $420 million to small businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
This payment will be a flat $5,000. To be eligible, a business needs to have started operating on or before December 31, 2020, still be operating in 2021, and have suffered an economic loss as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. An economic loss may be from lost revenue or increased expenses as a result of the pandemic. The business must have more than $10,000 and less than $7 million in annual revenues.

New Glarus and Belleville Police Departments to Mobilize for Click It or Ticket Safety Belt Enforcement

The New Glarus and Belleville Police Departments will intensify their enforcement of the mandatory safety belt law during the annual Click It or Ticket mobilization from May 24 to June 6, which includes Memorial Day weekend. More than 300 law enforcement agencies in Wisconsin are expected to participate in this year’s Click It or Ticket, according to a joint news release from New Glarus Police Lieutenant Jeff Sturdevant and Belleville Police Chief Bill Eichelkraut.

Monticello Graduation and Parade Information

Monticello Graduation will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. in the Rehmstedt Gym.
The Monticello Class of 2021 will be having a car parade at 2:30 p.m., following the graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 29. They would be so happy to see everyone there!

Memorial Day at Green's Prairie Cemetery

The Green’s Prairie Cemetery Association will hold a brief ceremony on Memorial Day, May 31, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. The ceremony will honor the veterans interred there and formally dedicate the flagpoles installed in 2020 to the memory of Dave Green, author, historian and long-time president of the cemetery association.
Green’s Prairie Cemetery is located in the Town of York on Postville Road, between county highways A and H.

Construction on Portion of STH 69 is Scheduled to Begin June 1st

A WISDoT project will affect 3.6 miles of HWY 69 between Belleville and New Glarus. Exact limits are the Dane/Green County line to just west of the newly constructed Olson Avenue in Belleville.
HWY 69 from HWY 92 to Peerless Road will be closed and detoured from June 1 through July 2 for culvert pipe replacements. A signed detour will follow HWY 39, HWY 78, and US 18/151. Access will be maintained to local residences within the work zone.
