The Belleville Fire Department had their new Fire Truck on display at the 25th Annual Fish Boil, held on Saturday, May 22, 2021. The new truck replaced two older trucks.

Monticello Fire Department Hosts Annual Pig Roast

The Monticello Fire Department held their annual pig roast on Saturday, May 22nd. Although limited seating was available in the fire station, the drive through option was very popular! Monticello Dairy Queen Sierra Sherman passed out cheese samples.

New Glarus Fire Department Training

New Glarus Fire Department held a training exercise on Saturday, May 22, 2021, on a house north of the Village of New Glarus, along with New Glarus Area EMS, and members of Verona Fire Department. After the training session, including a number of different scenarios, the house was destroyed and firefighters posed for a photo.

Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash in Jefferson Township

At about 1:00 a.m., on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, Green County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with the Juda Fire Department, responded to a report of a car on fire along Middle Juda Road, about .5 mile west of Richland Road. Upon further investigation, Deputies concluded that a driver was operating a vehicle traveling west on Middle Juda Road. The vehicle left the roadway and traveled into the north ditch. The vehicle then hit a tree. The vehicle caught fire. The driver, identified as Hunter J. Harrison, 18, Juda, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Green County Coroner’s Office.

Annual Sugar River Clean Up

The Lake Winnetka Sugar River Improvement Association Inc. will hold its annual Sugar River cleanup in Albany, WI, on Saturday, May 22, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. We will meet at the Albany American Legion Hall, at 300 N. Water Street across from the Boat Ramp, near the Police/Fire Station. Our goal is to remove as much garbage as possible from the river and its banks. We also want to clear a path through fallen trees that totally block navigation of canoes and creates hazards.

Green County Breakfast on the Farm

The Green County Ag Chest announces that the 41st Annual Green County Breakfast on the Farm is scheduled for May 29, and will be held at the Green County Fairgrounds in Monroe.
The Green County Breakfast on the Farm is held annually in May and is usually hosted by a farming family from Green County. Last year, the event was canceled due to the COVID health crisis and is now scheduled to resume, but at the Green County Fairgrounds in Monroe. The change in venue made it easier for the 2021 Breakfast on the Farm Committee to plan for the event on such short notice.

Since 1992, New Glarus businessman Hans Lenzlinger has hosted Dinner and a “Little Golf” to benefit Monroe Clinic Hospice Services. During a time when hospice services were less available, Lenzlinger saw a need and rallied the area behind this great cause to keep hospice local and loved ones at home or in the community near family.

Monticello Lions Staying Busy This Spring

Monticello Lions President Linn Lederman and Monticello Lions Secretary Mike Davis, of the Environmental Committee of the Monticello Lions, planted flowers at the Monticello monument, hung baskets on the foot bridge across the river and planted flowers in the antique horse trough in the park this past week. These flowers were all purchased with the monies donated by the community in the flower containers at different businesses around the village. The Lions Club would like to thank the community for all their support of this project.
