Girls on the Run Offers Celebratory 5K Events

Due to COVID-19, this year’s annual Girls on the Run of South Central Wisconsin Spring 5K event will be offered as small, socially distanced, site-based gatherings and as a virtual experience.

New Glarus Chamber of Commerce Festival Tip Program

The New Glarus Chamber of Commerce has launched a new giveback initiative called Chamber Cheers, where non-profit organizations that commit to providing all bartenders and token sellers for a specific festival shift will receive all of the tips donated during that shift. This will give local groups extra facetime with the public, free publicity, and of course, a financial boost. In 2019, the Chamber of Commerce tested the program with three different local groups, and the groups earned a combined total of over $2,000 in just five shifts.

BFD Announces 25th Annual Fish Boil

The Belleville Fire Department is holding their 25th annual fish boil on Saturday, May 22, 2021, at the Belleville Fire Station, 33 E. Main Street. There will be additional seating available outside, along with to-go orders.

Wildcat Softball News

The Belleville Wildcats softball team hosted Waterloo on May 4th. The Wildcats lost in five innings, 0-26. Coach Connie Wunschel commented that, “They were relentless.”
She continued, “I thought Kailey pitched pretty well, but this team was very good with the bats. We committed 4 errors, that came at inopportune times. Had we made the outs we could have ended their at bats sooner.”

Sugar River Girls Soccer Beats Cambridge-Deerfield

On Tuesday, May 4th, the Sugar River girls soccer team played their first game of the season against Cambridge-Deerfield in Belleville. Sugar River won it, 3-0.
Bella Brenkman, assisted by Kirsten Krantz, scored the first goal for Sugar River. Also scoring goals in the first half were Emma Anson and Callie Smith.
Morgan Thompson recorded 2 saves as GK, while Kaitlyn Peterson had 1 save.
On May 8th, the team participated in the Big Foot Invite.
Game one was against Janesville Craig. Sugar River lost, 0-2.
Morgan Thompson had 2 saves.

New Glarus Baseball Wins Over Monticello/Albany

The New Glarus baseball team hosted Monticello/Albany on May 8th, winning 28-0 in five innings.
Scoring runs for New Glarus were Cooper Dreyfus and Peyton Mendleski with 5 each, Easton Dreyfus and Leyton Mihlbauer with 4 each, Nathan Streiff and Brennan Butler with 2 each and Dominic Tollakson, Dane Duerst, Kylo Barker, Logan Roach, Austin Nimtz and Ben Melvin with 1 run each.
Leyton Mihlbauer was 4x4 at bat, while Peyton Mendleski was also 4x4 at bat and Brennan Butler was 3x2 at bat.
Eli Zimmerman and Kylo Barker teamed up to pitch a no-hitter for the Knights.

Raiders Take WIAA Regionals

On a cool evening under the lights of Reddan Soccer Park, the Raider boys defeated Evansville 2-0 to win the WIAA Regional title. Logan Niesen scored the go-ahead goal, and Breckin Faber sealed the deal with a goal late in the second half.
The Raiders advanced to the sectional semi-finals versus McFarland, who defeated our hometown Sugar River Raiders 4-0, ending our season with an impressive 9-2-1 record. The parents and players are grateful to coaches Bob Gentilli, Aaron Hatelberg, Matt Belknap, and Jake Ziehr for their leadership and energy they devoted this season.

Belleville's Scholey Runs in Cross Country State Meet in Janesville

Although Carter Scholey is a freshman, he has the drive and work ethic of an upperclassman. Carter was the only individual to qualify for the boy's race as a freshman, as well as representing one of the smallest schools still competing this spring.
The State meet, held in Janesville at the Blackhawk Golf Course, consisted of all 3 divisions running together, with no designation at the end for awards. Carter placed 23rd out of a field of 76, and finished with a season best of 16:39. Well done, Carter!

<strong>Tierman Presents Research at Annual UW System Symposium</strong>
<strong>Hunter Tierman</strong>, New Glarus, who is studying Social Studies, presented research at the 19th annual UW System Symposium for Undergraduate Research, Scholarly and Creative Activity that was hosted virtually by UW-Whitewater on April 28, 2021.
Tierman presented on Teaching Social Studies and Civics Through Primary Sources and Equitable Material as a co-presenter.
