Lake Belle View Closed Due to Algae

Unfortunately, the Village of Belleville was informed of high levels of blue algae in Lake Belle View on Sunday, August 22nd. Therefore, Village officials have closed all areas of access to the Lake within the Village’s jurisdiction until further notice, which means it is not safe to go in the water. Blue algae are single celled bacteria known as cyanobacteria that use sunlight to make their own food. Their growth, which occurs naturally, creates blooms that look like large scummy mats that appear on the surface of lakes and rivers.

The Wilhelm Tell Shooting Park was entered into the National Register of Historic Places on August 20, 2021. This project began in early spring, when the Wisconsin State Historical Society Preservation section contacted a member of the New Glarus Historic Preservation Commission asking that person to complete a pre-qualification form to determine eligibility of the property to be entered into the national register. The completed form was approved. The State then hired Elisabeth Miller of Madison to complete and submit the final forms (20 plus pages) for approval.

Frank Believes Marklein Prefers Staying in Power to Saving Lives

Dear Editor,
Did you know, in at least one way, Senator Howard Marklein is further right, and considerably less forthright than Donald Trump?
In common with Tucker Carlson, Marklein refuses to reveal if he has been vaccinated against COVID-19. (Call his office at 800-978-8008 or at (608) 266-0703, to confirm this accusation.) Under normal circumstances, this would be a problem. But, right now, it is potentially catastrophic.

Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over National Traffic Campaign

The Belleville and New Glarus Police Departments will be out with other law enforcement agencies throughout Wisconsin and the rest of the nation for the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” crackdown on drunken drivers from August 20 to September 6, which includes the Labor Day weekend.
Drunken driving is entirely preventable. If we can deter people from getting behind the wheel when they’re not sober, we will make progress toward the goal of reaching zero preventable traffic deaths in Wisconsin.
