Fire Damages Local Business

On Sunday, November 21, 2021, the Monticello Fire Department was notified of a fire on Fairview Road, south of the Village of Monticello. Upon arriving at the scene, Monticello Fire Chief Kevin Komprood saw flames and thick black smoke. He requested a MABAS (Mutual Aid Box Alarm System) alert for additional help.
Although there was considerable damage to one building on the property, the business remains open.

Monticello FCCLA And Lions Club Food Drive

The Monticello FCCLA and Lions would like to thank everyone that donated to our food drive on November 6th for the Green Cares Food Pantry. We were able to donate 1,870 lbs of non-perishable food items and toiletries, along with $200.00. It was a great food drive! Thank you to everyone who helped!

Turkey Drop Supports Belleville Food Pantry

The Belleville Turkey Drop organizers would like to thank the Belleville community for their incredible generosity during their 10th annual Turkey Drop that took place on Friday, November 12th. With other local events going on it was unknown how the turnout would be and it once again ended up being an amazing evening with so many giving community members!!
Donations to the food pantry included over $2,100.00 in cash donations, 56 frozen turkeys and a whopping 643 pounds of food!!

Green County Childcare Professionals Complete Training

Two dozen Green County childcare professionals recently completed special training in Professionalism to enhance their skills as early childhood educators.
As part of the Professionalism workshop, participants examined the skills required to be a successful early childhood educator, as well as who they are as professionals. They studied developmentally appropriate practices in early education and identified what it looks like for each individual. Training was provided by 4-C through a partnership with Green County Development Corporation (GCDC).

Green County Public Health Implementing Crisis Standards for Contact Tracing

From November 1st through November 15th, 349 Green County residents tested positive for COVID-19. At this rate, November 2021 is on track to be the month with the most COVID-19 cases in Green County in the history of this pandemic. This large volume of cases has surpassed the contact tracing capacity of Green County Public Health. Our department has now moved to crisis standards of contact tracing.

Montesian Garden Committee News

The Montesian Garden members held their last meeting for the 2021 garden season.
We received a beautiful bench for the pergola in memory of Connie Derendinger from her friends. She lost her life in a tragic auto accident earlier this year. Patti Rufener planted a flower garden in memory of her aunt, Nancy Studer. We had many visitors, several weddings, and nice comments in the guest book.
Many visit the Veteran’s monument while strolling the gardens. The Village keeps the grass neatly cut and John Beckwith trims around the plots.
