Santa to Visit Monticello Fire Station

Santa Claus is coming to town!! Santa will make his annual pre-Christmas visit to Monticello on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at the Monticello Fire Station, from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. While Santa greets the children there and hears their wishes for Christmas, his elves are working hard to set up a special shop for the children to buy gifts for their family members. Children can catch a ride to Santa’s Workshop at Zwingli Church on a fire truck, and will ride it back to meet back up with their parents at the fire station.

Santa Claus is Coming to Town!

The Belleville Community Club, with the Belleville Parent-Teacher Organization, will hold its annual Santa Visit, Holiday Gift Shop, and Book Fair on Friday, December 10th. The event will take place in the C.H. Hageman Gym at the Belleville Elementary School. The Holiday Gift Shop and Book Fair will open at 5:00 p.m. and end at 7:30 p.m. Santa will visit from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m., and hand out treats to the children, thanks to the Belleville Community Club.

Merry and Bright Belleville Lights Display at Community Park

Beautify Downtown Belleville, along with numerous local businesses and sponsors present: Merry and Bright Belleville! A community lights display at Belleville Community Park.
The lights will turn on at dusk on December 12th. You will be able to drive through the lights from the 12th through the 17th at your leisure.
On December 18th, join us for an interactive community event at the park.
At 4:30 p.m., Santa will ride in on a fire truck! Then, enjoy hot cocoa, coffee, candy canes and treats while you walk through the lights display with your family.

Holiday Fun and Family Night for the Belleville Wildcats

The Belleville Sports Marketing class is partnering with Winterberry Tree Farm, Subway of Verona, and the Lingonberry Llama to host a fun night of family friendly events. These events will be held at the Belleville High School, located at 635 W. Church Street, during a Varsity girls basketball non-conference game. This event will take place on December 14, 2021, at 7:00 p.m.

Laurie A. Grossen, age 68 of Belleville, passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, IL. She was born on April 19, 1953, at St. Clare Hospital in Monroe, the daughter of Edward and Hilda (Schlittler) Marty.

Paid Leave Must Stay in Build Back Better

Dear Editor,
Since the pandemic, two teachers at my child care center have had to take time off work to give birth. Another teacher had to take time off to finish her last round of chemotherapy and treatment.
Each of these individuals had to do so without paid leave. Instead, they forfeited their vacation time and/or sick time to cover some of this time.
I would love to support my employees financially during these important times of their lives, but, unfortunately, I have never had the resources to do so.

Search Continues for Melissa Trumpy

The search continues for Melissa Trumpy, who has been missing since late October. Melissa’s family and friends organized a search Saturday, December 4, 2021, in Shannon IL, as well as a vigil at a local church in Shannon. Unfortunately, there were no reports of finding Melissa.
Ben Affrunti, the father of Melissa Trumpy’s two youngest kids, talked about how heartbreaking it is for the kids. He has said that all his kids want is their Mom home for Christmas.
