Dear New Glarus Community,
Thank you one and all for a very successful Drive on Friday, December 17. First of all, a Thank You from Janet Schlimgen White: “It is because of people like you that Ron was able to live longer with getting weekly blood infusions before succumbing to his blood disease of myelofibrosis.”
Dear Editor,
Thank you to everyone who donated at the Red Cross Blood Drive on Tuesday, December 14. We collected 72 units from 75 people, 56 whole blood and 16 power reds, and that means more life, more love, more memories for the most vulnerable patients in our community - those suffering unexpected trauma and chronic illness every day.
There is no better gift that you could have given than the gift of life! Thanks again!

The shortage of childcare affects availability of workers for all public and private sectors. About half of our family childcare programs have closed since 2010, only 148 slots remain, and, of the 801 licensed group center slots, over 100 are unavailable due to no teachers. In Green County, parents of approximately 700 children need care for their young children. This impacts local businesses as they adjust hours according to staffing levels, employees job loads are increased, and people spend less.

About every three hours in Wisconsin, someone is killed or injured in an alcohol-related crash. Drivers impaired by alcohol or other drugs pose a serious hazard to themselves, their passengers and everyone else along our roadways. Preliminary data indicates that already in 2020, 166 fatal crashes occurred involving a suspected impaired driver, 31 more than in 2019 at this time.
The annual Holiday Luncheon was held last week in Monticello. Monticello Superintendent Al Brokopp said that at the luncheon 522 meals were served. Guests were entertained by performances from both the middle school and high school band, as well as the choir.
Brokopp also noted that the middle school student council did a wonderful job of bussing tables while the National Honor Society served coffee and desserts. Twenty-two celebrity servers from the community also helped out!
