Dane County District 30 Candidates

The last time Jerry O’Brien faced incumbent Patrick Downing in a race for the District 30 seat on the Dane County Board, in 2014, Downing beat the challenger by exactly two-to-one, racking up 66.6 percent of the vote. O’Brien is trying again this spring, and will face Downing on the April 5 ballot. We recently checked in with the incumbent to see where he stands on the issues. O’Brien declined to answer any of our questions.

Sugar River Euchre

The Sugar River Euchre League’s 91st regular season came to a close on Thursday, March 10th, with less drama than anticipated. By streaking past the Kleeman’s Hay Shakers with 6 extra points, the Express abolished any chances for a four-way tie for first place. The win advances the Express to the championship match for the fourth straight season. However Kleeman’s, the first half winners, will get their shot at revenge in this match. The date, time and place of the championship match will be determined at the Spring Tournament.

Glarner Jassverein Meets at Tofflers

The newly created Glarner Jassverein is working to grow the popularity of the traditional Swiss card game Jass in New Glarus.
Jass is a trick-taking game, similar to Euchre or Sheepshead, and was once popular in Green County. Now the Glarner Jassverein is seeking new and experienced players of Jass. No experience is required, just an interest in the game.
The group meets upstairs at Tofflers Pub & Grill, 200 5th Avenue in New Glarus, every Sunday at 7:00 p.m. There is no cost, and regular attendance is not required.
