GEORGE M. CLEVELAND SR.

George Marvin Cleveland Sr., 96, passed away on February 12, 2022, at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison. He was born in Mayville, North Dakota, on September 20, 1925.
George was a World War II veteran, where he fought in the campaigns of North Africa, Sicily, and Italy. He was employed through the years in various positions as a skilled welder and machinist.

The Green County Ag Chest is eager to announce the return of the 42nd Annual Breakfast on the Farm event. On Saturday, May 28, 2022, Sunset Ridge Dairy Farm, owned and operated by Duane and Jeanne Meier and David and Tiffany Meier, graciously invites you to join them at the farm for a hearty breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage, cheese, homemade coffee cake, milk, coffee and orange juice, along with strawberry ice cream sundaes. Breakfast will be served from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

New Glarus Memorial Day Parade

New Glarus American Legion Post 141 will be having a Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 30, 2022, starting at the village hall at 9:00 a.m., with lineup at 8:00 a.m. We would like to invite all area veterans to participate in the parade, either riding on our carrier we will supply or in their vehicles with a signage of their name and service on the vehicle, and anyone else that would like to participate is more than welcome.

New Glarus Bike Rodeo a Big Success

On Saturday, May 14, the annual New Glarus Bike Rodeo was held on 4th Avenue next to Village Park.
Twelve bikes were given away, along with 100 shirts and helmets. Lunch for 200 was provided, as well as free bike maintenance, bike safety training, and a petting zoo.

Belleville Fire Department Responds to Fire at Salvage Yard

On Friday night, May 13, the Belleville Fire Dept. was alerted to a multi-car fire in a salvage yard. Engine 1, Engine 2 and Tender 7 were sent, along with Belleville Area EMS, at approximately 7:42 p.m.
On arrival there were 5 cars on fire. An aggressive attack by Engine 1 crew with the support of Engine 2 shortly after had the fire under control in minutes.
Weather was a factor and becoming increasingly dangerous. The salvage company was able to remove the burned vehicles to a wide open field, with the rain they posed no additional danger to the rest of the property.

Belleville Baseball Wins Over Waterloo

The Belleville Wildcats varsity baseball team hosted Dodgeville on Monday, May 2nd. Despite outhitting the Dodgers nine to seven, the Wildcats lost 0-4.
Ryan Downing, Trevor Syse, Aidan Keyes and Gavin Boyum all recorded 2 hits during the game, while Carson Syse had 1 hit.
Kaden DeSmet pitched for 4 innings, striking out 4, and Devin Frydenlund pitched 3 innings striking out 1.

Ponies Track Team Competes at Invite

On May 6th, the Monticello Ponies track team competed at the Beloit Daily News Invite at Beloit Turner High School. The boys team finished in 8th place, while the girls finished in 10th.

ADRC Offers Self-Directed Walking Program

Green County Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) is offering Walk With Ease starting May 16th, running through June 24th, 2022. This will be offered as a Self-Directed workshop with guidance as needed from a trained leader. All needed materials will be mailed to you.

Wildcats-Raiders Track & Field Reunion – May 13th

In the spring of 1972, the Sports Complex opened with the completion of a six-lane, 440-yard track. Over the next 50 years, the facility has grown to include lights, bleachers, and a press box, along with baseball and softball diamonds and practice fields. The Belleville Wildcats football and Sugar River Raiders soccer programs call this home and the track is now an eight-lane 400 meter track.
