WDVA Accepting Grant Applications for Nonprofits That Serve Veterans

Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) Secretary Mary Kolar announced recently that applications are being accepted for two grants available to Wisconsin organizations that serve veterans and their families. Applications for both the WDVA Nonprofit Grant and the WDVA Entrepreneurship Grant will be accepted through Friday, August 12, 2022, at 4:00 p.m.

Name Released in July 17 Fatal Farm Accident

On July 17, 2022, at about 1:15 p.m., Green County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a check welfare request in the W4400 block of Fairfield Road, in the Town of Jefferson.
Upon arriving at the small farm, Deputies located a 78-year-old female who had been struck by a John Deere utility vehicle. The female, identified as Diane M. Nelson, was later pronounced deceased at the scene.
Initial investigation revealed the female was operating the vehicle and was struck after she parked and exited the vehicle.

New Glarus Knights 3rd Grade Boys Baseball Completes Undefeated Season

It was a splendid night for a baseball game last Tuesday night, July 19th, as the hometown Glarner Knight 3rd graders took on their arch rivals, the Wildcats from Verona, seeking the elusive undefeated season. The boys of summer played their hearts out in their last game of the season at the just remodeled downtown Glarner park baseball complex.

Belleville 9U Baseball Teams

Shown here is (almost) all of the three 3/4 Belleville boys 9U baseball teams. This was their last joint practice before the final play-off games. The three Belleville teams took 1st, 2nd and 3rd!! This was in the All-Star League, with a total of 10 schools.

Belleville Swim Team Ends Season on High Note

The Belleville Swim Team wrapped up their season recently with a home meet vs Jefferson.
<strong>Individual Results</strong>
Lauren Kosmosky placed first in both of her events in Girls 8 and Under. In the 25M Freestyle she finished in 23.25 and in the 25M Backstroke she finished in 28.84.
Harlee Zehmer placed third in the Girls 8 and Under 25M Freestyle with a time of 30.91.
Harrison Elliot placed first in the Boys 9-10 25M Freestyle, with a time of 32.69 and second place in the Boys 9-10 25M Backstroke with a time of 48.59.

Two WPGA Golf Professionals Play 100 Holes in Celebration of the Wisconsin PGA Section's 100th Anniversary

Two local golf professionals were up bright and early on Monday, July 18th, playing 100 holes of golf at Edelweiss Chalet Country Club in New Glarus as part of the WPGA's 100 Holes for 100 Years Charity Campaign.

2022 Six Rivers Senior Showdown is in the books with a victory for the East in 5 very close sets. The East Team won 4-1. The event raised $900 for the American Family Children's Hospital.

There will be a Community Blood Drive at the New Glarus Bible Church, 207 6th Street, from 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., on Friday, August 12, 2022. Swiss United Church of Christ is the sponsor for the blood drive.

New Glarus Fire Department Firefest

The New Glarus Fire Department's Annual Firefest will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2022. This year Firefest has been reformatted to a family oriented daytime event, eliminating the late night band and beer tent. The members of the NGFD want Firefest to be a day to give back to the citizens they serve, though fun and education. The fire department is celebrating 120 years of service in 2022.
From 11:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m., there will be fire truck rides for all ages, kids waterfights and plenty of kids activities and a petting zoo. All of these activities are free!

Looking for a way to give back to your community for a few hours each week? The Sugar River Senior Center in Belleville has a few current opportunities for you.
<strong>Front Desk Reception</strong>
The SRSC is looking for volunteers to help at the front desk. Must have computer, phone, reception, and office experience. Front desk shifts will be approximately three hour shifts, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
