Friends Library Sale Set

As I browsed last year’s books at the New Glarus Friends of the Library book sale, a title by a Biblical scholar caught my eye. Although browsing, I had no intention of getting anything to do with the Bible. But it had different information and a different slant that appealed to my curiosity.

New Glarus Police Department Donates to Elementary School

New Glarus Police Chief Boldebuck (left) and Lieutenant Sturdevant (right) dropped off some back-to-school supplies to the New Glarus Elementary School to help out students for the 2022-2023 school year. The items were all purchased from the Green County Shop With a Cop Funds.

Kiwanis = Community Service

Events from the past: Riverbank Clean Up and Carp-o-ree, The Circus Comes to Town, Movies in the Park, Bike Safety Rodeo, street crossing flags, Travelogues and Chili Dinner. These are a few of the Belleville Kiwanis projects, some of which have evolved into current community efforts and benefits carried on by the entire village.

Join the Sugar River Senior Center for New Exercise Classes

<strong>Line Dancing with Pat</strong>
Line dancing will be offered every Thursday, starting September 1st, at 1:00 p.m. Basic line dance class helps improve memory, strength and muscle function, increases balance and flexibility as well as improves cardiovascular and heart health. Line dance will be done using a wide variety of styles, country, waltz, ballroom, etc.
<strong>Yoga with Michelle</strong>
Yoga will be offered once a month, starting Tuesday, September 20th, at 9:30 a.m. Gentle yoga stretch. Bring a yoga mat.

Elizabeth Jean Fahey, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at Sienna Crest in Oregon. She was born on July 2, 1933, in Mazomanie, WI, the daughter of Linus and Laura (O'Neill) Doyle.

Trail Run at New Glarus Woods State Park

The Friends of New Glarus Woods hosted its 3rd annual trail run on Saturday, August 20th. One hundred and seventy five runners came to race the challenging course at the state park. It started to rain while participants were picking up their bibs, and it was still raining when the races started. The 1-mile “Race-to-the-Top”, as well as the 5-mile and 10-mile courses, took runners through woods and prairie, over rocky terrain with steep ups and downs, and over exposed roots that were muddy and slippery.

Celebrating 110 Years of Marriage

On August 26th, Terry and Jean Kringle celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary by dining at Kristi's in New Glarus. They were joined by their friends Sara and Don Shultz, who were also married on August 26th, 1967. Terry and Jean were married in Webster, WI, and Sara and Don were married in Mercer, WI, 142 miles away. Fast forward to Belleville Junior High, 1977, when Sara joined the teaching staff in Belleville and they discovered that they share the same wedding day. (Their combined total comes to 110 years of marriage). All four of them were teachers.

Monticello Prepares for Village Wide Garage Sales

Garage sale enthusiasts - it is time again to begin thinking about the Monticello Chamber of Commerce’s annual community wide fall garage sales. The sales will be held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, September 8, 9, and 10, 2022. The annual community wide garage sales features sales throughout the community, clearly indicated on maps with categories of sales items. The spreadsheet will also indicate which days the sale will be held. The maps, with spreadsheets, will be available at multiple locations in Monticello.

New Glarus to Celebrate Wilhelm Tell and Art in the Park This Weekend

This weekend is the annual Wilhelm Tell Festival and Art in the Park in New Glarus. After a two-year hiatus, everyone is excited to have them back.
Inspired by the vision of Edwin Barlow, a world traveler of the early 1900′s with New Glarus roots, the Wilhelm Tell Play has been presented annually on Labor Day Weekend since 1938. For the first three years, the play was performed in German only. The English production was staged for the first time in 1941.

Troop 106 Attends Tesomas Boy Scout Camp

Local Boy Scout Troop 106 traveled to Tesomas Boy Scout Camp, located just outside of Rhinelander, for their annual summer camp.
The camp was held the week of June 26th to July 2nd.
At camp the scouts worked on merit badges and rank advancement requirements during the week.
Scouts Ben Collins and Joe DiCristina met the requirements for the mile swim and completed it on Thursday of the week of camp. This was the second year in a row that both Ben and Joe were awarded the mile swim.
