DSPS Distributes Nearly $25 Million to Fire Departments Through 2% Dues Program

The Department of Safety and Professional Services distributed $24,846,704 to Wisconsin fire departments as part of the 2% Dues program. This is a major source of funding for state fire departments, which use the funding to replace equipment, operate fire prevention programming, train crews, and more. Locally, the village of Belleville received $11,848.84, the village of Monticello received $3,957.62 and the village of New Glarus received $9,016.56.

Results From Dane County's Gift Cards for Guns

On Saturday, August 13, 2022, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the City of Madison Police, held their first Gift Cards for Guns event at the Alliant Energy Center. During the four-hour event, a total of 577 weapons were surrendered in exchange for $43,380 in gift cards for gas and groceries.

Cheese Days Through the Years

The Green County Genealogical Society will hold its monthly meeting Saturday, September 3, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. The program, “Cheese Days Through the Years”, will be presented by Sherry Anderegg. The program will consist of the history of Cheese Days through the years 1914-1960’s. Her Power Point presentation will include many old pictures from past Cheese Days events, plus many stories of those earlier times.

Monticello Prepares for Village Wide Garage Sales

Garage sale enthusiasts - it is time again to begin thinking about the Monticello Chamber of Commerce’s annual community wide fall garage sales. The sales will be held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, September 8, 9, and 10, 2022. The annual community wide garage sales features sales throughout the community, clearly indicated on maps with categories of sales items. The spreadsheet will also indicate which days the sale will be held. The maps, with spreadsheets, will be available at multiple locations in Monticello.

New Glarus High School Students Recognized as Advanced Placement Scholars

Recently, College Board released its Scholar Roster for the 2021-2022 school year and 19 New Glarus High School students were recognized for their excellence in Advanced Placement courses. The following students were recognized for their efforts in Advanced Placement courses:
AP Scholar - To be considered an Advanced Placement Scholar, students need to have received a score of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams. NGHS students recognized include Levi Belknap, Ellie Eichelkraut, Lola Endicott, Aden Gobeli, Roman Kendrick, and Emma Marty.

The Bank of New Glarus to Acquire First National Bank at Darlington

Through a joint announcement today it was shared that The Bank of New Glarus will purchase First National Bank at Darlington. The acquisition will join two community banks with a combined 217 years of servicing customers across Green, Lafayette and Dane counties.
Ron Schaaf, President and CEO of The Bank of New Glarus, said, “We are extremely proud to be acquiring First National Bank at Darlington. There are many similarities between the banks and this connection will allow us to provide an even greater level of products and services across our local communities.”

Wildcats Open Football Season With 44-7 Win Over Cambridge

The Belleville Wildcats varsity football team played their home opener on Friday, August 19th against Cambridge. The Wildcats dominated on both offense and defense and scored a win with a score of 44-7 over the Blue Jays.

NGM Falls in Season Opener

Clinton. A surname oft-referenced with political overtones. However, on this evening, it was the Cougars of Clinton, Wisconsin, that played host to the Knights of NGM as both teams opened the 2022 WIAA high school football season. Opening Night is always a special time of year. As the field lights flicker and then reach full lume after 10 months in repose, there is an awareness that summer is fleeting and football is here...the definition of bittersweet, I suppose.

New Glarus Youth Committee Presents Scholarships

The New Glarus Youth Committee met with college-bound students from the class of 2022 on August 4, 2022, at 7:00 p.m., at Tofflers. The committee presented them with their scholarship checks and wished them well in their pursuit of careers in business, welding, nursing, and engineering.
