Monticello Lions Club Sponsoring Kids Swim Free Night

The Monticello Lions Club is sponsoring a free swim night for kids 18 and under at the Monticello Pool from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., on Friday, August 26th.
Everyone is welcome to attend, adults will be subject to the standard pool admission fees. All kids age 7 and under must be accompanied by someone 12 and older at all times.

August Meeting of the Monticello Area Historical Society

The Monticello Area Historical Society (MAHS) will meet at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 25, 2022, in the Zwingli UCC Lounge, 416 E. Lake Avenue, Monticello.
Following a short business meeting, Richard Horn of rural Brooklyn, will give a presentation chronicling his 75 years for the love of ice skating from pond hockey to European ice, with an emphasis on outdoors.
This is a free presentation and will start about 7:15 p.m. Come join us; the Public is welcome to attend both activities.

Save the Date for the Annual Fall Colors Car Cruise

The annual Fall Colors Cruise, in memory of TJ Disch, will take place on Saturday, October 15, 2022.
Registration is at the Monticello Fire Station from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m., with the group photo at 10:45 a.m. The cruise departs from the fire station at 11:00 a.m. sharp, making a few stops along the way, and will return at dusk to King’s Bar and Grill, 244 N. Main Street in Monticello.
The cost is $15 per person, or $25 per couple. All proceeds benefit the TJ Disch Memorial Scholarship Fund. Everyone is welcome, you don’t need a classic car!

Why Are Children Being Allowed to Go Over Lunch Account Balance?

Dear Editor,
As a community member of the New Glarus School system, we see our school achieve in many ways, academically, grades, sports, etc. It was recently brought to my attention, with having a member of our family with a child in school, that when she was going to sign up for school this year, she was told that she has an outstanding lunch balance of over $511.00, with an “a la cart” program our lunch room offers to the kids.

Thanks to All Who Attended NGSD Annual Meeting

Dear Editor,
Thank you to New Glarus School District community members who attended the New Glarus School District Annual Meeting on Monday evening, August 15. The Annual Meeting is the opportunity for district voters to discuss and vote on the tax levy for the coming year.
For the eleventh year in a row, the New Glarus School Board recommended, and the voters approved, no increase in the current property tax levy of 11.63 mills per $1,000 of valuation.

Light Up The Darkness

Come Light Up The Darkness with us on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at the Belleville Community Park from 5:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m. We will have live music from local band The Ghosts In The Room, brats, hot dogs, and more made on site by the Belleville Firefighters, baked goods provided by Lingonberry Llama and Amanda’s Sweet Treats, awareness around the park at dusk with glow sticks, a floating water lantern release on Lake Belle View following the walk, and free face painting and bounce house access for the kids.

ADRC Offers Self-Directed Walking Program

Green County Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) is offering Walk With Ease, starting September 5th and running through October 14th, 2022. This will be offered as a Self-Directed workshop, with guidance as needed from a trained leader. All needed materials will be mailed to you. Walk With Ease – a program developed and certified by the Arthritis Foundation – is a structured walking program that teaches participants how to safely make physical activity part of their everyday life.
