New Glarus Educators Attend PLC at Work Conference

During the week of August 8th, 17 educators from the New Glarus School District attended the PLC at Work Conference in Minneapolis. PLC stands for Professional Learning Communities, a model of collaboration for excellence for school districts. The professional learning community model was started by Dr. Rick DuFour at Stevenson High School in Illinois, and the model of collaboration and improvement through the PLC process propelled Stevenson to one of the top school districts in the United States.

ADRC Offers Self-Directed Walking Program

Green County Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) is offering Walk With Ease, starting September 5th and running through October 14th, 2022. This will be offered as a Self-Directed workshop, with guidance as needed from a trained leader. All needed materials will be mailed to you. Walk With Ease – a program developed and certified by the Arthritis Foundation – is a structured walking program that teaches participants how to safely make physical activity part of their everyday life.

Program Finds Only Four Violations in Green County During Compliance Checks

The Wisconsin Wins (WI Wins) program, a state-level initiative aimed to decrease youth access to tobacco products, and the Southwest Alliance for Tobacco Prevention (SWATP) would like to say CONGRATULATIONS to the many clerks and retailers of Green County for your great work on reducing tobacco access to minors. Recently, youth volunteers have conducted tobacco compliance checks in hopes to see retailers are not selling tobacco to minors and are checking IDs. In 2022, out of the 26 compliance checks, there was only four sales to minors.

A new report published by Becker’s Hospital Review has shared that SSM Health Monroe Hospital has again achieved Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) overall 5-Star Rating for the eighth time.
This honor puts SSM Health Monroe Hospital as part of elite group of healthcare providers. Only 429 hospitals nationwide received a 5-Star rating in 2022.

NGM Football Opens Friday, Aug. 19

And now it’s August - time for Cicadas and high school football in Wisconsin. NGM enters the season with a new head coach, D.J. Schuett, and yet another “new” conference, the Capitol Conference now re-aligned, which no longer features north and south divisions. And what a conference it is (!) with four teams already being ranked in the state’s Top 10 (Columbus, Lake Mills, Lakeside Lutheran, and Edgewood). Five players from across the conference are listed as Division 1 and 2 college commits.

Stewart Tunnel to be Repaired

The Friends of the Badger and Sugar River State Trails are pleased to share an update from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources regarding the Stewart Tunnel on the Badger State Trail.
In a letter dated August 1, 2022, Steve Schmelzer, Bureau Director of the Parks and Recreation Management Program with the WI DNR, thanked all those who submitted comments on the Draft Stewart Tunnel Alternatives.
