Blood and Platelet Donors Needed

The American Red Cross is asking donors to book a time to give blood or platelets before busy fall schedules and holiday celebrations ramp up. When blood donations drop, so does the blood supply, making it extremely challenging to ensure blood is available when hospitals need it. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Donors are needed to help ensure blood and platelets are always available and on the shelves for cancer patients and others who rely on transfusions for care.

Montesian Gardens Hold Final Meeting of the Season

Montesian Gardens held their final 2022 meeting after observing their 25th year. Harold “Heinie” and Wanda Babler served on a tourism committee and toured gardens at Monticello, Iowa. They came home with a dream of creating such a project here in Monticello.
In 1997 plans were begun, starting with planting trees and a few small plots which led to needing brick pathways. The bricks were laid by many volunteers as related by Ed Koca at our September meeting. Wanda was able to attend our May meeting, observing her 94th birthday that day.

Ribbon Cutting at Pleasant View For New Dementia Stabilization Unit

This has never been done before. Until now, there has been no safety net for caregivers when they needed help in an emergency.
There is a state-wide shortage of facilities with the capacity to provide care for residents with difficult dementia symptoms. Families in crisis are often left with no options.
“If you are a caregiver in crisis, we have very few immediate resources to offer. We feel helpless,” said Shelley Reukauf of the Iowa County Adult Protective Services.

Frank Supports Spicer

Dear Editor,
I write in the hope of persuading your Republican-leaning readers to put fundamental democratic principles ahead of party loyalty.
It seems to me obvious that we are on the edge of a frightening crisis and that MAGA Republicans are substantially to blame.
