Childcare Profile: Little Prairie Family Daycare

Twenty-five years ago, Lori Sutherland was looking for a career change. Unable to find childcare openings in Brodhead, she placed her young daughter in a licensed childcare program in another town. When her daughter turned 4 and there were still no openings in Brodhead, Sutherland moved forward with her desire to change careers.
“I already had my Bachelor’s Degree and decided to go back and get a degree in Early Childhood and start my own daycare. Best decision ever!” she said.

DFI and DATCP Host Student Loan Debt Relief Workshop: How to Avoid Scams, Use Free Repayment Tools and Save Money

The Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) and the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) have announced they are hosting a free online student loan debt relief workshop on October 18, 2022. The workshop will help student loan borrowers prepare for the end of the public service loan forgiveness waiver on October 31 and the end of the federal student loan payment pause on December 31.

Potential Data Disclosure May Have Affected Certain Wisconsin Medicaid Members

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) has announced that on August 8, 2022, as part of a cybersecurity incident investigation, DHS was notified that a presentation emailed to the DHS Children’s Long-Term Support Council in April 2021 contained protected health information. This presentation was forwarded to employees working for county government agencies in Rock and other Wisconsin counties and posted to the DHS website as part of the meeting minutes.

Ponies Continue Undefeated Conference Record

The Monticello Ponies volleyball team hosted Argyle on October 4th, winning in three, 25-19, 26-6, 25-11.
Kelsy Grant had 27 assists and 5 kills, while Macey Grant had 7 kills, Ellie Gustafson has 17 kills, 12 digs and 4 aces, and Jaden Zuber had 5 kills and 3 aces.
On October 6th, the Ponies traveled to Juda and won in three, 25-11, 25-9, 25-11.

New Glarus Volleyball Wins Over Cambridge

On Thursday, October 6th, the New Glarus varsity volleyball team defeated Cambridge in three sets, 25-7, 25-18, 25-20. No further information was provided by press time.
The team played at Belleville on October 11th. They will host their last home conference game of the season on October 13th against Wisconsin Heights. New Glarus is currently in second place in the Capitol South, with a conference record of 7-2.

Belleville Falls to Wisconsin Heights

The Belleville Wildcats varsity volleyball team played at Wisconsin Heights on October 4th, losing in three, 22-25, 23-25, 21-25.
Mikayla Caskey had 9 kills, while Maddi DeSmet and Kailey Prochaska had 5 each. Kailey Prochaska, Addison Edge and Maddi DeSmet had 2 aces apiece. Ava Benash had 25 digs, while Maddi DeSmet had 15 and Kylie Humke and Mikayla Caskey each had 12. Addison Edge had 22 assists, while Mikayla Caskey had 2 and Kylie Humke, Maddi DeSmet and Lindsay Kittleson each had 1.
The Wildcats hosted New Glarus on October 11th.

Darlington Deals Belleville Their First Loss of Season

The Belleville Wildcats varsity football team traveled to Darlington last Friday night, to play the only other undefeated team in the SWAL Conference. The Redbirds took a 34-7 lead going in to halftime, and while the Wildcats held them scoreless in the second half and stepped up their own offense, the final score was Darlington 34, Belleville 24, resulting in Belleville’s first loss of the season.

Wildcats CC Competes in Albany

Both the Middle School and High School Cross Country teams saw success last week. The Middle School team had two meets, the first one at DeForest (3,000 meters) and the second in Albany (1.8 miles).
