Town of New Glarus to Purchase Land

On Monday, November 28, 2022, the Town of New Glarus held a Special Meeting for the electorate. Around 40 people attended the meeting at the Town Public Works Garage on Railroad Street, in the Village of New Glarus. The meeting was held to take a vote on the purchase of land and the borrowing of money in order to purchase the land.
Town Chairman Chris Narveson presented the plans for the purchase of approximately 99.47 acres of land located W6599 STH 39, west of the Village of New Glarus.

DHS Launches Free Telehealth Service for COVID-19 Treatment

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) announces a free telehealth service (https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/covid-19/telehealth.htm) to streamline access to COVID-19 treatment. COVID-19 antiviral treatments must be taken within five days of symptoms starting, even if symptoms are mild, making it essential to quickly access a clinician for a prescription. Anyone 18 and older who tests positive for COVID-19 can have a telehealth consultation with a health care clinician within 5-30 minutes.

Wildcats Derail Zephyrs

On Tuesday, November 29th, the Belleville Lady Wildcats traveled to play at Cuba City. Down 26-32 at the half, the Wildcats couldn’t stop the Cubans from outscoring them in the second half and lost the game. The final score was Belleville 52, Cuba City 70.
Addison Edge led Belleville with 14 points and had 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 steals, while Lainey Winkers scored 12 points and had 1 rebound and 3 steals, Kailey Prochaska scored 7 points with 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 block and Maddi DeSmet scored 7 points and had 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 1 block.

The Sugar River Raiders opened their season on November 29th, with a Dual against Pecatonica/Argyle. The Raiders won the Dual, 56-14.
Carson Loshaw, wrestling at 220 lbs, won by fall over Levi Paust.
Wrestling at 106 lbs, Steve Grunnet lost by fall to Lukas Orloff.
Blake Endres, wrestling at 113 lbs, lost by Major Decision to Aidan Gruenenfelder.
Wrestling at 126 lbs, Ashlin Mihlbauer lost by fall to Jakob Orloff.
Brennan Keyes, wrestling at 138 lbs, won by fall over Will Doescher.

Monticello Boys Beat Belmont

On November 29th, the Monticello Ponies played at Wisconsin Heights. Down 20-43 at the half, the Ponies had trouble hitting baskets for the rest of the game and lost to the Vanguards. The final score was Wisconsin Heights 67, Monticello 38.
Jumping out to an early 10-2 lead in the first 3 and a half minutes, the Vanguards were up 21-6 after the first 7 and a half minutes of the game, then closed out the half on a 13-2 run to take the lead into halftime. Monticello outscored Wisconsin Heights 10-2 in the final 7 minutes of the game but could not catch up to win.

New Glarus Loses Heartbreaker to Darlington in OT

The New Glarus Glarner Knights boys basketball team hosted Darlington on November 29th. Up 1 at the half, the two teams tied it up by the end of the game to enter overtime. The Redbirds emerged the victor, winning 69-63.
Leading New Glarus with 17 points was AC Strok, while Max Parman and Jack Leonard each scored 14 points and Max Marty scored 13 points.
On December 3rd, the Knights faced Scales Mound at the Lena-Winslow Jamboree. Down at the half by 5, the Knights came up short and lost the game, 59-62.

Pony Express Steams Past Zephyrs

On November 28th, the Monticello Lady Ponies hosted the Benton Lady Zephyrs. Down by 9 at the half, the Ponies stepped it up on offense in the second half to win the game. The final score was Monticello 57, Benton 51.
Ellie Gustafson led Monticello with 19 points, while Dalana Trumpy scored 16 points and Molly Olson scored 14 points.
Monticello hosted Wisconsin Heights on December 6th. They will host Juda on December 9th, play at Parkview on December 12th and at Black Hawk on December 15th.
