Ponies Drop Two Games Last Week

On January 10th, the Monticello Ponies hosted Cambridge. Down 24-43 at the half, the Ponies struggled in the second half to catch up but ultimately could not overcome the deficit. The final score was Cambridge 80, Monticello 55.
The game was tied early on at 7-7 before the Blue Jays went on a 17-2 run in the middle of the first half. Cambridge came out of halftime with the same momentum and while Monticello outscored them, Cambridge pulled out the win.

Annual Alumni Tournament Held in Monticello

The Monticello Booster Club recently held the annual Alumni Basketball Tournament, and this year added a Six Rivers Alumni Volleyball Tournament, and was a well-attended event!
The winners in the basketball bracket were the Classes of 2020 and 2021, and Black Hawk/Argyle girls captured the volleyball crown.

Masonic Lodge Presents Scholarships

New Glarus Masonic Lodge #310 presented scholarships to three recent New Glarus graduates, Morgan Erstad, Caroline Ingwell and Georgia Jones.
Morgan Erstad is attending UW-Milwaukee, majoring in Social Studies. Morgan plans on becoming a high school Social Studies teacher.
Caroline Ingwell is attending UW-La Crosse.
Georgia is attending UW-Eau Claire and majoring in Psychology and is also starting her own research project with the Blugold Fellowship. She hopes to continue pursuing research as a career following graduation.

New Glarus Cares Raises $25,000 to Help Fund Purchase of Land Near Candy Cane Park

New Glarus Cares, the local community foundation formed to help raise funds to preserve the 2.2-acre greenspace adjacent to Candy Cane Park, announced on Monday that its group had reached a significant fundraising milestone, raising more than $25,000.
Helping achieve this first very important milestone was a meat and cheese raffle held Kleeman’s Bar & Grill on Saturday, January 14th. The event raised $1,423.00 in total.

Vierbicher Associates Partners With New Glarus Cares

New Glarus Cares Community Foundation, Inc. is working collaboratively with Only in Wisconsin Giving and the Village of New Glarus to raise funds to support the purchase of 2.2 acres of green space adjacent to Candy Cane Park. This 2.2 acres of land has been unofficially used as an extension of the park for many years, so this is the logical next step to expand the park.

Masonic Lodge Presents Scholarships

New Glarus Masonic Lodge #310 recently presented $1,000 scholarships to three recent Monticello graduates, Hannah Clark, Seth Culberson, and Nikki Lehr.
Hannah Clark is attending Edgewood College, studying Biology. Seth Culberson is attending UW-Whitewater, studying Accounting. Nikki Lehr is attending Blackhawk Technical College, studying Nursing.

Winter Bingo Returns in 2023

Winter Bingo is resuming at Duppler-Smith Post 460 American Legion, 2 W. Pearl Street, Belleville. Dates are Sunday, January 29, 2023, Sunday, February 26, 2023, Sunday, March 26, 2023, and Sunday, April 30, 2023.
Doors open at Noon, Bingo starts at 1:00 p.m. Cash prizes determined by number of players. Food and refreshments served.

Federal Government Ends Extra FoodShare Benefits for Wisconsin Households in February 2023

The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023, passed by Congress in late December, ends a federal program that has been providing additional benefits to households enrolled in Wisconsin’s FoodShare program. FoodShare households have been receiving the maximum amount for their household size, or $95, whichever is more. In recent months, an average of approximately $80 million has been distributed monthly to help almost 400,000 households across our state struggling to afford food.
