On Tuesday, January 3rd, the Belleville Lady Wildcats played at Jefferson. Down by 2 at the half, Belleville couldn't keep up with Jefferson's momentum in the second half and lost the game. The final score was Belleville 49, Jefferson 59.

Ponies Fall to Vikings

The Monticello Ponies boys basketball team played at Pecatonica on January 6th. Down by a single point at the half, the Ponies battled throughout the second half but ended up losing to the Vikings. The final score was Pecatonica 59, Monticello 55.
The game was tied five times in the first half, but the Vikings took the lead for good with a little over a minute left in the half. The Ponies got within 2 points with three seconds left in regulation, but fouled and the Vikings hit their shots to win the game.

Glarner Knights Score Two More Wins

On January 3rd, the New Glarus Glarner Knights played at Barneveld. Ahead by 10 at the half, the Knights cruised to a 69-51 victory over their hosts.
Leading New Glarus with 15 points was A.C. Strok, while Max Parman scored 14 points and Ethan Friedrich scored 10 points.
On January 6th, the Knights hosted Cambridge. With a 3-point lead at the half, the Knights kept ahead in the second to win the game. The final score was New Glarus 51, Cambridge 41.

Lady Knights Improve to 12-0

The New Glarus Lady Knights faced the Lady Warriors of Black Hawk at home on Tuesday, January 3rd. Up by 11 at the half, New Glarus held Black Hawk to just 11 points in the second half to claim victory. The final score was New Glarus 56, Black Hawk 26.
Leading New Glarus with 23 points was Lindsey Schadewalt who sunk 5 3-pointers, and who also had 1 rebound, 2 assists, 3 steals and 1 block. Alex Atwell scored 18 points with 11 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 4 blocks, and Grace Nommensen scored 8 points and had 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal and 1 block.

2023 Winterfest in New Glarus

The 37th annual Winterfest, and first Veterans reunion in the nation, is scheduled to take place in New Glarus January 12-15, 2023.
On Thursday, January 12th, the early birds will be gathering at Ott Haus Pub and Grill, 406 2nd Street.
The day kicks off at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, January 13th, with the hospitality suite, located on the second floor of the Chalet Landhaus, 801 State Road 69.

Kuenzi Awarded White Clover Medal

Congratulations to Bill Kuenzi of New Glarus AMVETS Post 69 upon being presented with the White Clover Medal, and certificate of appreciation.
Mr. Kuenzi is an Air Force veteran and a long-time member and officer of the AMVETS. He is also active in the New Glarus community.
The White Clover Medal is a national award that was established for recognition for an AMVETS member who exemplifies service to veterans. It is based on the individual's impressive accomplishments in service to veterans over the course of his membership in AMVETS.

Lake Montesian Fisheree

The Lake Montesian Fisheree will take place on Sunday, February 5, 2023, from 7:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m., at Lake Montesian in Monticello. The Fisheree is sponsored by the Monticello Lions Club. There is no entry fee to participate, however you must purchase a raffle ticket to be eligible for fish prizes.
Door prize drawings will take place at 1:30 p.m., and the Grand Prize will be drawn at 2:30 p.m. You do not need to be present to win. There will also be prizes for the largest and smallest fish.

Kleeman's To Host Meat Raffle for Candy Cane Hill

Kleeman’s Bar & Grill will be hosting a meat and cheese raffle on Saturday, January 14th, at 1:00 p.m., at its bar located at 116 5th Avenue in New Glarus. Anyone and everyone is invited to attend. Proceeds from the event will be given to New Glarus Cares, who is using the money to donate for the purchase of the greenspace adjacent to Candy Cane Park and preserve the land as is and so it is not developed in the future.
