Welcome Table Community Meal Returning to Zwingli

Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello is bringing back their Welcome Table Community Meal for 2023.
The last Monday evening of each month, join your friends and neighbors for a free meal and camaraderie. There will be a donation basket for those who wish to donate. The Hands of Change Youth Service Group prepares most of the meal along with serving and cleaning up afterwards, while the entrée is donated or provided by individuals or a small group of people.

Belleville Community Blood Drive to be Held

Every day, blood donors help patients of all ages: accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those battling cancer. In fact, every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood.
Who can you help by donating blood? Cancer patients, trauma patients, Sickle Cell patients, burn patients, patients with chronic diseases, and more.

Masonic Lodge Presents Scholarships

New Glarus Masonic Lodge #310 presented scholarships to four recent Belleville graduates, Risandi Bartle, Gina Salmela, Trevor Syse and Madelyn Winterburn.
Risandi Bartle is attending UW-La Crosse, studying for her Bachelor's in Biology. Bartle plans on becoming either a Physician's Assistant or Doctor.
Gina Salmela, who received the Wilbur Hollis Memorial Scholarship, is attending UW-Madison pursuing a Botany degree, and hopes to get into research.

Monticello Community Club to Hold 24th Winter Chickaree

The Monticello Community Club will be grilling 500 half chickens again this year. Half chickens will be sold at $8.00 each (not a complete dinner…just chicken). The basting recipe remains the same as what’s used at Homecoming.

Doris M. Lahey, age 77 of New Glarus, passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2023, at her home. She was born on May 3, 1945, in Farley, IA, the daughter of Clarence and Stella (Klostermann) Kluesner.

Cassie Schenkel, Monticello, has made the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Dean’s List for the 2022 fall semester. To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must receive a grade point average of 3.4 or above in a single semester.

Pope Honored to be Part of Live-Saving Ceremony

Dear Editor,
I was honored and humbled to be invited to participate in an important and unique event in New Glarus recently when the first of what may become an annual Recognition of Life-Saving Ceremony. I want to acknowledge how fortunate you are to live in the New Glarus community where you have the assurance of response by highly trained, caring, dedicated, professionals should an emergency arise which requires immediate medical intervention.

Scouts Earn Woodworking Badge

Belleville Boy Scout Troop #61 have worked for a couple of months making wooden boxes with tile inlay, earning them the Woodworking Badge.
The project required that the boys design a box with a lid which fastened with inset hinges. It also involved them mitering, dovetailing, and dadoing their wood boxes.
All the wood and tile for the woodwork badge was donated by EZ Tile, Inc.

New Chiefs in New Glarus

A Swearing In Ceremony was held for new Police Chief Jeff Sturdevant at the January 3, 2023, New Glarus Village Board meeting. A number of friends, family members and colleagues were in attendance for the ceremony. Village Clerk/Treasurer Kelsey Jenson administered the Oath of Office to Chief Sturdevant.
A Retirement Open House was held for outgoing Chief Burt Boldebuck on December 29, 2022. During the Open House, Sturdevant presented Boldebuck with a plaque thanking him for his years of service.
