Outstanding Members of Monticello Athletics Awarded

NGM Cross Country Coaches Steve Wehrley and Coach Ann DeNure were presented with the 2023 Outstanding Members of Monticello Athletics award on Tuesday, January 24, 2023.
Steve Wehrley taught New Glarus Middle and High School Physics and Chemistry from 1972-2012, and began coaching the NGM Cross Country teams in 1987, leading the program until announcing his retirement this winter after completing his 35th season. In 2012, Wehrley was inducted into the Wisconsin Cross Country Hall of Fame.

New Glarus High School Mock Trial Team to Make 20th Appearance in the Regional State Tournament

The New Glarus High School Mock Trial team will compete in its 20th mock trial tournament on Saturday, February 4th, 2023. The students master a manual with over 90 pages of evidentiary rules and trial procedures, and another 68 pages of witness statements, exhibits and legal standards before they compete against teams from across southern Wisconsin. They assume roles as either lawyers, presenting the case and making arguments, or as witnesses, who must make a convincing presentation of their facts and answer cross examination questions from opposing attorneys from other schools.

PEGGY L. LEGLER

Peggy L. Legler, 72, of Evansville, WI, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at Unity Point/Meriter Hospital, Madison. Peggy was born on February 22, 1950, in Monroe, WI, to Raymond and Shirley (Ruch) Blumer. After Raymond's death, Shirley married Walter Krauss and he adopted and helped raise Peggy and her siblings.
She graduated from New Glarus High School in 1968. On January 31, 1969, Peggy married Ivan ^Butch^" Legler in Belleville

BETH CAMPBELL

Beth Campbell lived her life to the fullest until her battle with cancer ended on January 17, 2023. She was born on January 5, 1949, to Rufus and Patricia (Gerber) Legler of Belleville, WI.
She graduated from Belleville High School and Madison Area Technical College. She was a member of the Paoli Zwingli United Church of Christ, the Dane and Green County Home and Community Education and was very active in many, many community events. She spent her career working for the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics and for the Wisconsin Division of Corrections.

John N. Winzenried, age 91 of Monticello, died on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Oak Park Place in Janesville. John was born on July 16, 1931, in Blanchardville, the son of John William and Josephine (Johnson) Eidsmoe Winzenried.
