Winterfest and Silvesterchlausen

The 37th annual Winterfest, and first Veterans reunion in the nation, was held in New Glarus January 12-15, 2023.
On Friday evening a respectful ceremony was held before old and damaged flags were burned. Following the ceremony the Alphorn players played ^Taps^".

The Sugar River Raiders varsity team competed in a Triangular at Mineral Point on January 3rd. Sugar River lost to Mineral Point, 25-51.

Sugar River's Steve Grunnet, 106 lbs, lost by fall to Lennon Ewert.
Blake Endres, 113 lbs, won over Chris Halvorson.

Sugar River's Brennan Keyes, 132 lbs, lost by fall to Kade Rule.

The New Glarus Männerchor and Jodlerklub Presents Silvesterchlausen

The New Glarus Männerchor and Jodlerklub, in partnership with the Swiss Center of North America, will be celebrating the centuries-old Swiss festival called Silvesterchlausen (sill-VEST-er klaas-en) on Saturday, January 14, 2023. Organizer Gregory Long is proud to bring this tradition back for its second year and share lesser-known Swiss customs with American audiences.

CAROL M. DIEKROEGER

Carol Mae (Hoesly) Diekroeger, 93, passed away on December 30, 2022, at Congregational Home in Brookfield, WI, where she had lived for several years. Born on March 29, 1929, Carol was the youngest of three daughters of Beulah and R. Raymond Hoesly of New Glarus, WI.
Carol was raised in New Glarus and was very proud of her Swiss heritage. Growing up, Carol and her family participated in many events celebrating their Swiss heritage. For years Carol played a ^Swiss Miss^" in the annual William Tell Festival
