Belleville Girls Basketball Moves to 8-0 After Impressive Wins Over Poynette and New Glarus

On Tuesday, December 14th, the Belleville Wildcats hosted the Poynette Pumas, which is a very tall and deep team. The game saw both teams feeling each other out in the first half which led to a tight game at halftime and saw Belleville go into the locker room with a 33-27 lead over Poynette. With a few adjustments at halftime, the Wildcats came out with more energy and intensity and saw them extend their lead to a 21-point victory with a final score of 69-48.
Belleville was led by Ava Foley with 21 points, Mickey Stampfl with 17 points and 10 rebounds, Kenna Edge with 15 points, and Callie Smith's 7 points and 16 rebounds. The Wildcats saw seven girls score on the night.
And then, on Friday, December 17th, the Wildcats hosted the New Glarus Glarner Knights for their conference home opener. Coach Pharo said he was extremely excited to see all the energy in the gym from both of the participating teams. The Wildcats seem to really feed off the energy and played smothering defense all night, which led to them going into the locker room with a 30-17 lead at the half. On this night, the Wildcats made very little adjustments at halftime and continued with their first half game plan which led to them winning the game with a final score of 55-29 over the Knights.
The team was led in scoring by Callie Smith with 20 points and 21 rebounds, Mickey Stampfl with 13 points, and Kenna Edge with 9 points. The night also saw a great defensive effort by Alyssa Caskey and Lainey Winkers, along with Ava Foley recording 9 steals.
For New Glarus, Elle Lancaster scored 8 points and had 1 rebound, while Alex Atwell scored 6 points and had 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals and 1 block and Ellie Eichelkraut scored 6 points and had 3 rebounds and 1 steal.
Belleville will be back in action with hopes to continue their undefeated season when they travel to Lancaster on Thursday, December 23rd and in a Holiday Tournament at Evansville on December 29th and 30th.
