Belleville Girls Basketball Wins Home Opener

On Tuesday, November 23rd, the Belleville girls basketball team hosted their first home basketball game in 637 days when they took on the Barneveld Golden Eagles. The game saw the first seven minutes to be a feeling out process by both teams and the score stayed close. Coach Pharo stated that it took his team a little time to adjust to the defense that Barneveld was playing and, after a time out, they shifted the game plan to start shooting from the 3-point range and that is exactly what they did. With that being said, the team had no idea on what an exceptional night senior Kenna Edge was going to have. Before the first half was over, she had made seven 3-pointers and Belleville went into the locker room with a 48-18 lead.
The second half showed more excellent shooting by Belleville, especially from the 3-point line, which saw the Wildcats set a team school record for the most 3-pointers made in a game with a total of thirteen 3-pointers on the night with a combination of four Wildcats contributing to this total (Kenna Edge, Lainey Winkers, Addison Edge, and Mickey Stampfl). It also saw Kenna Edge set a single season game school record for the most 3-pointers in one game in which she made a total of eight 3-pointers breaking the school record of Quinn Rear who held the record with a total of six 3-pointers made twice in her career (based on information found on WisSports). The final score ended up being an impressive 77-33 win for your Belleville Wildcats.
Belleville was led in scoring by Kenna Edge’s game and career high 28 points, Callie Smith’s 11 points and 16 rebounds and Ava Foley’s 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Coach Pharo said, “It is extremely exciting to see the great team chemistry which has allowed the team to get out to a 3-0 start on the season, and better yet each of the three games this season has seen different styles of play which will help the Wildcats when it comes to conference play. Belleville has been able to play at least eight girls in every game and in two of the games this season Belleville has been able to play twelve girls on Varsity, which shows the quality depth this team has this season.”
Belleville’s season continues next on Tuesday, November 30th, when they travel to Shullsburg and then back to their home gym on Friday, December 3rd, where they will welcome Parkview and celebrate Youth Night.
