Belleville Girls Basketball Wins Second Conference Game in a Row

On Friday, January 15th, the Belleville girls basketball team traveled to Waterloo to take on the Pirates. The Wildcats started the game very shaky and saw themselves get behind by 7 points to start the game and went into the locker room trailing 33-24 at the half.
The Wildcats came out after halftime and unfortunately did not have much luck. Belleville saw the Pirates take a 19-point lead when Coach Pharo said after a time out with approximately 12 minutes left in the game, he could see a renewed energy out of some of the girls and increased determination out of everyone to get back into the game. They took it one possession at a time and slowly chipped into the lead until about 30 seconds left in the game where Callie Smith was fouled with the Wildcats trailing by 1. Smith made the first free throw and missed the second but was able to get her own rebound and put the ball back in to give the Wildcats the first lead of the game by 2 points with 20 seconds to go. Waterloo called time out and both teams set up their offense and defense for the final 20 seconds, which saw the Pirates get up a shot with 0.6 of a second left and one of their players was fouled putting them on the line. The Pirates made the first free throw and after Belleville called a time out before the second free throw, she came back out and was not able to make the second. Belleville was able to secure the rebound and came away with a very exciting 61-60 victory.
Belleville was led by Callie Smith with 22 points and 22 rebounds, Mickey Stampfl with 12 points, and Ava Foley and Alyssa Caskey each with 8 points for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats traveled to Darlington on Tuesday, January 19th to compete against the Redbirds, to Just a Game in Wisconsin Dells on Thursday, January 21st to take on Wisconsin Heights (this will be Senior Night and Parent's Night for Belleville), and to Albany on Saturday, January 23rd, to take on the Comets.
