Belleville Village Board Approves Moving Forward with Library Project

After removing the item of business that was tabled until the July 16 village board meeting and further discussion of moving forward with the Belleville Public Library and Community Center project, the village board members voted 4 to 1 to proceed with the design work during the July 2 regular village board meeting. Two board members were not present.
During the June 16 village board meeting, village board members tabled the recommendation from the Library Board to approve the Belleville Public Library and Community Center schematic design and move forward with design development phase of the project to the July 16 village board meeting.
Village Administrator Brian Wilson provided an updated report on financials for both projects prior to the vote.
The village board pledged $2 million, with the challenge to the community to raise at least $1 million toward the project. Lehmann reported that they are within $50,000 of that goal.
A donor has come forward to challenge the community to come together to build the new library and new donations and multi-year pledges will be matched on a 1-to-1 basis up to a total of $150,000.
Village board members also discussed and approved the recommendation from the Wildlife Resources Committee regarding a Proposal by Tall Grass Restoration LLC, regarding the clearing of undesirable plants and undergrowth from Lake Belle View island. 
They also discussed of a preliminary financing plan for Village of Belleville capital improvement projects and impact upon Village Budget and Finances.
