Belleville Wildcats Lose to Mayville Cardinals

The Belleville Wildcats played the Mayville Cardinals in McFarland on Friday, November 12th, for a WIAA Level 4 Division 5 Tournament game after a send off from town complete with fire trucks escorting them out. It was a close game throughout the first half, but the Wildcats couldn't hold on through the second and lost the game. The final score was Mayville 42, Belleville 25.
By the end of the first quarter, Mayville was up by 7 points. With around 6 minutes to go in the second quarter, the Wildcats scored on a 50-yard pass, making it 13-21, but missed the extra point. A sack by Trevor Syse resulted in a turnover and the Wildcats scored again, this time on a 96-yard pass, making the score 19-21 at halftime, after the failed two-point conversion by Belleville.
The Cardinals held the Wildcats to zero points in the third quarter, while scoring a TD of their own. Mayville scored again shortly into the fourth quarter. The Wildcats made a strong effort to bring the score closer on a 71-yard pass from Carson Syse to Anthony Nolden, however the two-point conversion failed.
Trevor Syse was 18 for 25 as quarterback, with 1 TD and 241 yards. Carson Syse was 2-2, with 112 yards and 2 TDs.
Leading the Wildcats in rushing was Dylan Posthuma with 67 yards on 4 attempts, while Anthony Nolden had 17 yards on 3 attempts.
Carson Syse had 125 receiving yards on 5 receptions with 1 touchdown, while Anthony Nolden had 73 yards on 2 receptions and 1 TD, Andrew Ace had 63 yards on 5 receptions, Trevor Syse had 40 yards and 1 TD, and Demarcus Conner had 38 yards.
The Wildcats had an incredible season this year, with a 10-3 record overall, and 7-5 in the SWAL Conference. Belleville is proud of you!
