The Dane County Dairy Promotion Committee is proud to support 10 local students through its scholarship program. The scholarship program recognizes students who are residents of Dane County and pursuing post-secondary educations with an agricultural emphasis. Recipients of this year’s $1,000 scholarships are Whitney Brown, Belleville; Zach Endres, Waunakee; Sara Griswold, Black Earth; Karsen Haag, Mt. Horeb; Kyle Herbrand, Dane; Jessica Jones, Mt. Horeb; Michael Murphy, Madison; Mara Shelley, Deerfield; Jessica Wendt, Stoughton; and Keri Zimmerman, Deerfield.
Whitney Brown, Belleville, is the daughter of Brian and Yvonne Brown. She graduated from Belleville High School and plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-River Falls to major in animal science with a pre-veterinary medicine emphasis. Brown is actively involved in the Belleville Busy Beavers 4-H Club and Belleville FFA Chapter and participates in dairy judging, dairy products judging, and speaking contests. She served as the Belleville Dairy Queen and also participates in soccer, cheerleading, and musicals. She would like to practice veterinary medicine internationally.
Brown said, “I see the importance in helping other people, and traveling to countries outside of the United States seems like a great way that I could do that.”
“We are proud to help support these students through our scholarship program,” said Pat O’Brien, president of the Dane County Dairy Promotion Committee. “These students will become the next generation of leaders in our industry and their talents will continue to move agriculture forward.”
Students will be recognized for their achievements on Saturday, June 13, at the upcoming 37th Annual Dane County Breakfast on the Farm. This year’s event is hosted by Ivan and Beth Hellenbrand and Stan and Mary Hellenbrand at Kick A Boo Farms in Waunakee (7456 Kickaboo Road). Breakfast will be served from 7:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and includes pancakes, sausage, yogurt, cheese, ice cream, milk, and coffee. Admission is $7.00 for adults, $4.00 for kids ages 3 to 11, and free for kids 2 and younger.
Organized by the Dane County Dairy Promotion Committee, Breakfast on the Farm will also include live music, guest speakers, horse-drawn wagon rides, and educational displays and activities. Bucky Badger and Maynard of Mallard’s Baseball will make special appearances.
The Dane County Dairy Promotion Committee promotes the dairy industry and consumption of dairy products by sponsoring dairy education in school programs and local dairy education events, such as Cows on the Concourse and Breakfast on the Farm. To learn more, visit www.danecountydairy.com.
