Fourth of July Celebration in Mt. Vernon

Mount Vernon Zwingli United Church of Christ and the Mount Vernon Park Association announce an all day Party at the Park on July 4, 2015. This year’s activities feature the 36th annual UCC Chicken Dinner, with the famous dessert spread, along with a silent auction, music, games, kid’s parade, beer tent and fireworks.
Kicking off the day’s events will be the kid’s bike parade at 11:00 a.m., led by the Mount Horeb Fire Department. The parade lines up at Highway G and Highway 92, in Mount Vernon, and ends at the Forest of Fame Park.
Dinner includes Grilled Chicken, Baked Beans, Potato Salad, and a huge array of Homemade Desserts, and runs from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., or until supplies run out. Members of the Church will be doing the hard work to bring you another spectacular meal! Carry-outs are available, although you do not want to miss the celebration! Meal prices are $10.00 for a half Chicken Dinner and $8.00 for a quarter Chicken Dinner, which includes Potato Salad, Baked Beans, Dinner Roll, Coffee, Water or Lemonade, and your choice from hundreds of Homemade Desserts!
A Silent Auction will run from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., with hundreds of items available to bid on. Items include donations from area businesses, as well as services offered by members of the Church and community. Bidders need not be present to win. Winners will be notified by phone.
Free Ice Cream Sundaes, provided by Catholic Financial Life and Kyla Charles, will be available in the Gazebo.
Music throughout the day will feature Travelling Troubadour Pastor Bob Wang at 2:00 p.m., Distant Cuzins at 3:00 p.m., Graham’s Crackers at 4:00 p.m., and The Anderson Brothers from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Plus, RPB&J DJ Service will continue the music during breaks!
Then, at dark, enjoy a fantastic free fireworks display, sponsored by Kyla and Alan Charles and Catholic Financial Life.
