Grant Funds Awarded to Combat Weekend Hunger Within New Glarus' Students

Southwestern Wisconsin Community Action Program (SWCAP) has received a grant award for New Glarus’ Food For Kids Program. This grant award in the amount of $2,700 will be solely used to purchase food for New Glarus’ students.
Hunger within students is an issue in every community and New Glarus is not an exception. The Food For Kids Program confidentially provides New Glarus’ students with weekend foods at no cost to the student or the school. During 2020, weekend food packs issued to New Glarus’ students totaled 3,128 compared to 1,366 in 2019. New Glarus’ teacher and Food For Kids coordinator, Josie Wieser, indicated, “By providing these weekend foods through this grant award, New Glarus students in need stay healthy, stay connected to school and it helps them know that food is available to them.”
This grant is made available from the New Glarus Community Foundation of the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin. The Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin is a resource for area non-profit organizations whose programs and services are working for the betterment of our communities.
Jeannie Blumer, Chair of the SWCAP Board of Directors, stated, “This grant award from the New Glarus Community Foundation and the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin closes the hunger gap within New Glarus’ students. While collaborating with our partners, Second Harvest Food Bank, the School District of New Glarus, New Glarus’ Caring for Kids Board, any student in New Glarus can receive weekend foods. SWCAP is honored to work with these partners whose common goal is to end hunger.”
The New Glarus Community Foundation is a charitable endowment created in 1996, by and for the people of New Glarus.
