Habitat Rescues Useful Items in Juda Home

When Grande Cheese in Juda needed to take down a house that was in the way of planned expansion, the company offered to let Habitat for Humanity of Green County take any items that could be reused. So, on Saturday, November 16, a troop of six volunteers arrived with their tools helping themselves to doors, kitchen cabinets, a furnace, hot water heater, ceiling fan and other miscellaneous items which will be used in rehab projects or more likely sold in their Monroe store.
The store, open Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and located at 305 2nd Street in Monroe, offers building materials, appliances, furniture, housewares and hardware at less-than-new prices. Grande Cheese was generous and forward-thinking in inviting the organization to take what they wanted from the house. Habitat for Humanity Resale Store is dedicated to keeping useable items in circulation rather than chucked in a landfill.
The house on County Road S is scheduled for demolition soon. The deconstruction work, under the guidance of veteran volunteer Roger Lindh, began at 9:00 a.m. The Habitat trailer was loaded and volunteers were enjoying lunch at headquarters by noon.
Habitat for Humanity of Green County is always seeking volunteers to help with projects. Anyone interested in volunteering can send an email message to board@greencountyhabitat.org or leave a voice mail at (608) 329-4024.
