The 53rd Annual presentation of Johanna Spyri’s Heidi was on June 23rd and 24th, at the New Glarus High School.
Taste of New Glarus was held on Saturday afternoon in downtown New Glarus and visitors had the opportunity to sample a variety of local tasty treats.
In the Heidi play, Mike Jones played Alm Uncle. This was Mike’s fourth year in the play. He is a resident of New Glarus and is a Letter Carrier for the US Postal Service. He enjoys reading, watching TV and playing with his dog in his free time.
Lance Brecklin played Peter, the goatherd. This was Lance’s second year playing Peter. Lance will be in the fifth grade and actually enjoys reading, so he is using his acting chops when he is complaining about reading as Peter. He plays golf and basketball, and is a member of the math team.
Camryn Arnett played Heidi. This was Camryn’s second year portraying Heidi, and she shares Heidi’s sweet disposition. Camryn will be a fifth grader, and likes to swim, roller skate and tap dance.
Jamie Brecklin played Brigatta, Peter’s mother. This was Jamie’s first year in the play, and she was a perfect fit for the role of Brigatta, as she is really Lance’s mom! Jamie is a 4K teacher at New Glarus Elementary School and she enjoys watching her sons play sports.
Sutton Zimmerman played Seppi, the street urchin. This was Sutton’s second year playing Seppi. He will be in the sixth grade and enjoys programming and football and was very excited to be acting alongside his sister, Keatan.
Keatan Zimmerman played Tinette, Seseman’s maid. This was Keatan’s first year as Tinette. She will be in the seventh grade and enjoys swimming and basketball and thinks acting is exciting – especially when she gets to give her brother a tough time on stage.
Meaghan Evans Belknap played Fraulein Rottenmeier. This was her first year playing the role. Meaghan is a Registered Nurse and caring mother to five awesome boys when she isn’t busy portraying the villain of the Heidi play.
Brady Noll played Clara Seseman. This was Brady’s second year playing Clara. Brady will be in the sixth grade and she loves to play soccer, basketball and practice gymnastics.
Joseph Janisch played Mr. Seseman, Clara’s father. This was his first year as Mr. Seseman. When he isn’t playing Mr. Seseman, he enjoys welding, writing and acting…and admits to getting into a bit of tomfoolery occasionally.
Jackie Elmer played Clara’s Grandmamma, Madame Seseman. Jackie has been involved in the Heidi play for an amazing 47 years. She works at the Chalet Landhaus and enjoys trips to Alaska to visit her daughter and granddaughter.
Chad Brecklin narrated Heidi.
Behind the scenes, Ashley Holland directed the play. Stage Crew Managers were Jesse Donahue and Roumaine Holland. Steve Wehrley was the Sound Engineer. Allison Blum was in charge of Backstage Sound Effects. Makeup was done by Jacqueline Judd-Scheurer and Megan Goodall. The caretaker of the live animals was John Marean. Margot Eastham provided the goats, and the Blum Family provided the kittens.
Heidi Board Members are John Marean, Nancy Galhouse, Joyce Jensen, Deb Zimmerman and Ashley Holland.
