It's Time to Nominate Someone for the 2019 Belleville Wildcat Wall of Fame

The Wildcat Wall of Fame Committee is accepting nominations for the 2019 Belleville High School Wall of Fame. If you know an alumnus, staff member, or community member who has had a significant impact on the school district or the village of Belleville, please nominate him or her in recognition of his or her commitment to Belleville and the #WildcatWay.
“My hope is that alumni and community members embrace the nomination process, engage in discussions with others about deserving individuals, and that the Wildcat Wall of Fame Committee therefore has some tough decisions to make,” said Middle School and High School Principal Nate Perry.
Nominations received by 5:00 p.m., on January 14, 2019, will be considered for induction. Those nominations received after this time and date will still be considered the following year.
There is a limit of five nominations per individual per year. If a nominee is not selected, they will remain in the pool for future consideration. A committee of students, community members, alumni, school district staff members, and school board members will collect nomination forms and advance finalists based on (1) service or contributions to the school district and/or community, (2) achievements, awards, or honors received, and (3) number of Wildcat Wall of Fame nominations received.
Alumnus and community member Bart Morrick said that the Wildcat Wall of Fame has been a long time in coming.
“It offers the school district and the community an opportunity to honor those who have provided generations of students an example to strive towards,” said Morrick.
Perry agreed and added that honoring Belleville High School’s distinguished alumni and the school district’s exemplary staff members was long overdue.
“In 2017, former teacher and coach John Becker was the first honoree,” said Perry.
Then, in 2018, the School District of Belleville inducted its first class into the Wildcat Wall of Fame, which included Nancy Fahey, LeRoy Freitag, and Barb Funseth, who shared this, “When Mr. Perry called and said that I was one of three nominees for the Wildcat Wall of Fame and that I should get my speech ready, I thought it certainly wouldn’t be me. I never gave a speech another thought. Then I received another call from Mr. Perry and he said that the committee needed a photo. I said, ‘For what?’ He said for the Wildcat Wall of Fame. He then explained that all three of the nominees were receiving the award. I was completely astonished, I felt unworthy, and so honored that people thought this about me and had so many nice things to say.”
“I still don’t know for sure what I did to receive this honor but I’m very grateful,” added Funseth. “I love Belleville, I love the kids, I loved my bus driving days, and I would do it all again.”
