Knights Lose Season Opener to Darlington

On Friday, November 16th, the New Glarus girls basketball team hosted Darlington. Coach Kim Burton called the visitors “very talented” and commented that the girls came out and played an up tempo game and were aggressive on both ends of the floor.
Senior Morgan Hustad closed the gap to two points at halftime in the closing minutes of the first half, New Glarus 28, Darlington 30.
Darlington opened the second half by scoring two 3-pointers, and the Lady Knights responded by applying pressure and never giving up. However, New Glarus lost a hard fought battle. The final score was Darlington 56, New Glarus 48.
Leading scorers for the Knights were JayLynn Benson with 11 points, Morgan Hustad with 10 points, Lily Himmelmann with 8 points, Brooke Watrud with 7 points, Lexi Krause with 6 points, Emma Marty with 4 points and Shealyn Klosterman-Havens with 2 points. Lily Himmelmann led the team with 7 rebounds while Emily Streiff and Brooke Watrud each pulled down 5. Morgan Hustad and Brooke Watrud both had 4 steals.
The Knights played at Columbus on November 20th and will host Monticello on November 24th before heading to Lodi on December 4th.
