Lady Ponies Suffer Two Tough Losses

The Monticello Lady Ponies girls varsity basketball team played at Orangeville on January 18th. Monticello lost; the final score was Orangeville 56, Monticello 27.
Coach Lori Brokopp said, “They have some height and shot very well from the outside. We couldn’t get shots to fall. I thought we rebounded very well for as much height as they had.”
With 14 points, Dalana Trumpy led Monticello in scoring, while Katelyn Eyler had 7 rebounds.
On January 20th, Monticello hosted Pecatonica and lost, 27-52.
“Still fighting through our shooting woes,” explained Brokopp. “We just couldn’t get our shots to fall. Even though Pec pressed most of the game, I thought we handled it pretty well. We were only down 10 at half, but they outscored us by 15 in the second half.”
Dalana Trumpy led Monticello with 9 points, while Ellie Gustafson and Jaden Zuber scored 8 each, and Karlee Wilkins had 2.
On January 24th, the Lady Ponies played at Benton and they hosted Juda on January 25th. They will play Black Hawk at home on January 28th and then play at Argyle on February 4th. Currently, they are 6-8 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
